Jealousy (yes i know this is a load one with them but oops?)
Jealousy: My character gets jealous over yours.
It seemed like from the moment she had been born her family had been ready to give her life to Gemma. Avery didn’t know what she had done that was so wrong, so terrible to be replaced but she wished she could take it all back. Maybe she had been born wrong and they had seen it. So they had Gemma to replace her. Of course they couldn’t get rid of their eldest child so they had told her she was to watch over her youngest sister, her only sister.
It had worked for a while. Avery was eager to be a good big sister but as they got older and Gemma started to garner more attention Avery had started to become envious. First it was time, than it was toys, than it just started to be like everything. Those were easy things to get over and while things were at times strained she was close to Gemma. It was when she started to lose people that everything fell apart.
Their dad, the baby, and a part of her soul she couldn’t figure out how. Yet her sister got to keep her life, sure they had shared their father but Gemma seemed to be dealing so much better. Accepting life for what it was and Avery hated her for it. Why couldn’t she move past this, move past it all. So she did, she ran away leaving behind all those things that caused her pain. Until she was forced home.
Losing her Grams had been hard. But there was so much anger at the woman for the way she looked down on her. The two had drawn battle lines and it hadn’t ended until her death or after. For all the anger at her grams there was so much more at her sister. It wasn’t fair, not again. Their grams power, denied by their mother and stolen from her. Her sister had taken another thing that was supposed to be hers. Perfect Gemma Teague, with her heroics and good magic. Now she had her birth right. Gemma had her family, her life and she didn’t even want it.
She stood in front of the mirror dressed for her Grams funerals. Pictures of her family all over the edges. “I hate you.” Her voice was a calm whisper as she stared at them all, focusing on her sisters face more than the other. It didn’t surprise her when everything started to burn. She watched the pictures turn to ash repeating ‘I hate you’ over and over. Until her eyes had no where to look but at her own reflection. “I HATE YOU!” The mirror shattered and she quickly threw up her hands to deflect the glass. Her perfect saintly sister wouldn’t hate them, wouldn’t hate herself. Avery was so jealous there was only anger left. If Gemma would stop stealing her life maybe just maybe she wouldn’t hate herself either.
