Majestic Beasts: Gemstone Dragon
The Gemstone Dragon is both a elusive creature to study, and a renewable source of otherwise unobtainable minerals and gems.
As a member of the alatus serpens or dragon family, gemstone dragons have scales the color of their habitat, (often stony grey, rusted red or lava black) four legs, a long spiked tail, and, (unique to this variant) large crystals on their backs. They don’t have the ability to breath an element, although they are deadly when angered.
The giant gems on the back of the head are valuable and harvest-able, as this doesn't hurt the dragons in any way.
However, gemstone dragons are unable to be domesticated, as their rocky environment evolved the dragons into being able to break or snap any kind of impairment or spell. Raising from birth is also impossible as we’ve never seen a pup or egg be farther away from an adult than a few feet.
Gemstone dragons may or may not have wings, as that is dictated by where the dragon lives. Those who live in seashore mountains have wings, while those living in landlocked regions won’t.

@draw247 ‘s Draw Your OC Week!
Day one was “Draw or Write about your first OC” Well I guess I found the first long term imagining of ‘characters’ I ever made.
Top [2002]: Yin and Yang were ‘chinese dragons’ [used loosely because I don’t even know what those are] I always imagined doing things with me [I was lonely and imaginative okay], or just carried about their business, usually on car rides and eventually in school. This particular image is from fifth grade when I’d draw nothing BUT dragons [and thought I was good at them]. They just remained things I’d draw, sometimes dragons, sometimes wolves, sometimes cats, but were never developed characters.
Bottom [Current]: Yeah they still have dragon forms [now based on longma :D] but every animal character ended up getting turned into kemonomimi. They’re still twins, but aren’t female [they’re whatever], and represent Life and Death instead of Yin and Yang and are still pretty casual and do whatever [I mean come on I’d imagine the dragons doing everyday mundane stuff]. And gained actual names: LaVasa and PraKasa, and are Onyx and Diamond guardian dragons.
Amazing part? They still have a pretty similar colour scheme- just less stupid and annoying.
So there’s my first concept-to-actual-character I ever made.
Yesterday’s dragons, Selenite (sold) and Lapis Lazuli (claimed).
I now have a request form for these babies over at facebook.com/dragonwys but there is about a 2-week wait as I have so many requests already!
Introducing: Gemstone Dragon + Breeding!
Gemstone Dragons (Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire, etc.), in addition to being Craftable at the Spell Shop, can now be bred! We added a new type "Gemstone" to all gemstone dragons. The Gemstone type is a composite type (like Black and Pink) that breaks down into Green and Blue. So it can produce Green, Blue, and Gemstone hybrids with whichever color it is paired with.
