You Make Me Nervous
The locker room rang out with the sounds of laughing boys, startling Nasir out of his silent reverie. He stood quickly and swung open his locker, trying to seem busy, though he had already changed into his practice clothes.
For a while he was unnoticed as hushed conversations went on around him. He did all he could to aid his anonymity, keeping his head down and not making any contact with the other boys. That is until a single voice rang out above the others.
"What's this then? You're not wrestling with us, are you, little man?" Nasir looked up into the speaker's eyes. Agron smirked, gaze fixed as the boys around them laughed. Nasir stood much shorter than him, but he didn't cower, simply offered his own small smile in return.
"Size isn't always equal to ability," he said quietly, barely loud enough for anyone but the person that stood before him to hear.
Agron chuckled and licked his bottom lip, easily laughing at Nasir's taunt. The other boys scoffed and clapped him on the back as they passed, eager to get to the gym. Nasir stood where he was, not wanting to look away first. The boy smirked again and stretched out his hand. "Agron," he offered.
"Nasir," he said, gladly reaching out and shaking it.
"Your size is unfortunate," Agron said as they walked upstairs together. "Are you quick, at least? Or smart? In something other than math." Nasir glanced at him as he walked. He didn't know Agron had ever noticed him before. He, of course, seldom thought of anyone else. The fact that he could even answer a math question was a miracle.
"Fight me and see," Nasir muttered, overtaking his step and walking before him into the gym. Agron's loud chuckle was drowned out, replaced by the coach's orders.
Wrestling came naturally to Nasir. It was a dance, and he was well versed in the steps. In only a few days he made his way up to fighting Agron. The boy was all smiles and jokes everywhere but the mat. There he turned into a rabid dog, slamming into anyone and anything that helped him gain the advantage.
Nasir had yet to best him, but at the end of each day he saw Agron getting more and more out of breath. He was close.
"The little man proves his worth!" Agron bellowed, stepping out of the shower with a fresh white towel wrapped around his waist. "Did you see how he attacks?" Nasir smiled and closed his locker, shouldering his backpack as Agron played to the crowd. "How he dodges, how he jumps? This man can fuck all of you and still challenge the best of us!"
Agron dropped his hands as laughter sprang out. He was always boisterous after practice, and lately Nasir had become part of his jovility. "He stands undefeated by any of you!"
Laughter slowed as the boys dispersed and Nasir walked up to Agron. "Undefeated by all but you," he said, trying to keep his eyes up as the taller boy pulled on a shirt. Even so, he couldn't help but notice the pleasant way his skin moved, and how his arms bulged as he pulled the shirt down
"And don't you forget it, little man," he grinned, ruffling Nasir's hair for a second before he slapped his hand away.
"Call me that again and I'll make you regret it." His words were forceful, but they held no weight, betrayed by the smile playing on his lips.
"You know, you actually may. If you don't lower your arm right after your attack." Agron slammed his locker closed and turned to face him head on, lifting his hands up in sparring position. "Keep your hands up-" He jabbed to the right, nearly missing his head. "And your eyes..." His hand landed on Nasir's shoulder. He turned to look at it, only to have Agron lift his chin and turn his attention back to him. "On your opponent. Always."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I'm shit at this!" Agron pushed the table back so hard a few books fell off. Nasir followed him to the kitchen, gratefully accepting the offered beer.
"You're not shit, you just need practice. It's like wresting."
"No it's fucking not! Everyone can wrestle. Not everyone's smart."
Nasir smiled his soft lazy smile and turned his eyes on him. "So you're telling me you're scared of a few numbers?"
"I'm not scared of anything," he said, leaning down to the other boy's eyeline. "Nothing."
Nasir smiled and moved a fraction of an inch closer. Agron swallowed hard, gripping the beer bottle so hard it was in danger of breaking. "Then prove it," Nasir whispered, backing away and walking to the table. Agron rolled his eyes and sighed, downing the rest of the beer.
They worked until he got a headache, and then Nasir finally stopped torturing him. "I'm done," Agron said, leaning back on the couch. "I'm never doing math again."
"You will if you want to pass algebra."
Agron let his head drop to the side, gaze falling on Nasir's black eye. He'd been trying not to ask, but all thoughts of that were gone as he sat up and ran his thumb over the edge of the bruise. "What happened here?"
"Got into a fight," Nasir muttered, shrugging away from his touch.
"With who?"
"Just this guy."
Agron exhaled heavily. He didn't know if Nasir was telling the truth, but he wanted specifics. More than that, he wanted to make the other guy to swallow his own teeth. "What about?" he asked instead, trying to appear casual.
"Nothing important," Nasir said, zipping up his backpack and standing up. "Same time next week?"
"Nasir-"
"See you then." He offered a little smile in parting, and was gone before Agron could do anything.
The bruise was gone on Monday, and things seemed to go back to normal. Except that Agron's eye drifted to Nasir more than usual. He didn't want to ask, because he new Nasir wouldn't tell him, but that didn't stop him from worrying. No new bruises showed up, but he noticed him retreat from everyone else. He was the only one Nasir would fight. It's true they were the most adequately matched, but Agron suspected there was more to it than that. Something to do with the reason Mathias and his crew kept looking at him so strangely.
"Did you do anything to those brutes?" he asked Nasir one day, nodding toward the rowdy crowd in the showers.
"Nothing I haven't done to you on the mats."
"Mmm. Then why does Mathias look like he wants you dead?"
Nasir glanced over to the showers, giving Agron's eyes enough time to run over his smooth chest, and notice just how low his jeans hung. "Don't think he likes me very much."
"How'd you manage that? I've been trying to get him out of my ass for years."
"It's a superior skill. One among the many you lack." Agron laughed loudly and shoved him out of the locker room, arm immediately falling around his shoulders when they stepped out into the hall.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Agron, I don't think-"
"Oh come on." He held the door open to let Nasir into the gym. "What are you afraid of?"
"Collapse," Nasir said, looking up at the tall bleachers looming over them.
"I'll protect you," Agron called over his shoulder, walking in with his head bowed. "I'll even let you tutor me a little."
Nasir sighed and followed, careful not to touch the rickety wood itself. "You'd think they could update these things. Considering that half the school sits on them."
"That would require smart people running the school." Agron sat down and flipped open his lunch box, tossing Nasir his pretzels.
"Isn't it illegal to be here or something?"
The other boy's booming laugh echoed around the empty gym. "Illegal...?"
Nasir blushed and looked down at his knees. "By school standards." It was a stupid joke, one of many he didn't seem to be able to stop making around Agron, all in the interest of seeing him laugh.
"Mmm. Maybe. But there's no one here." Nasir nodded and tried to find somewhere to rest his eyes. It was currently very hard to focus on things that weren't body part.
He leaned against the wall as Agron hugged his knees to himself. When Agron spoke again it was to his shoes. "So you want to tutor me or something?"
"Not really. We have time before the next test. Unless you wanted me to."
Agron chuckled and leaned back next to him. "God no. I've had my fill of the subject. I just...like this place. I thought it was a nice place to--" He started fidgeting and let out a sort, high pitched laugh. "Just thought it was a nice place, that's all."
"To what?" Nasir pressed, letting his eyes flutter closed. It was fifth period, right after lunch. He was naturally a little sleepy, and more than comfortable in Agron's presence. When Agron didn't answer for a while, he opened his eyes.
It happened too fast. One second Nasir was getting ready to say something stupid--like how shiny Agron's eyes were--and the next second they were kissing. Or rather, he was sitting there shocked as Agron kissed him. He barely had time to realize what was happening and then it was over, leaving Agron nervously licking his lips and staring at the floor.
Nasir looked down too, more for lack of anything better to do than actual curiosity. Agron's hand was resting next to his, their fingers barely touching. He raised his head again and looked into Nasir's eyes, a huge smile on his face. Nasir leaned forward and pulled Agron down to him. He forced himself to go slowly at first, exploring the lips he had spent months staring at.
Agron placed an unsteady hand on his neck, digging his nails into Nasir's shoulder as the kiss deepened. He pulled Nasir's bottom lip into his mouth, closing his teeth down on it when Nasir pulled back for oxygen. He wasn't sure whose skin was burning hotter, but soon he was fighting desperately with his need for oxygen and his desire not to ever, ever stop kissing this boy.
Thankfully, Agron made the decision for him, pulling away just as his lungs started screaming. He started chuckling again, bringing his forehead down on Nasir's. "Can I ask you something?" Nasir muttered, wrapping his fingers around Agron's upper arm. He nodded, breaking out in another smile. "Why the hell did it take you six months to do that?"
Agron laughed and dragged his thumb across Nasir's bottom lip. "You make me nervous," he whispered, fixing his eyes on Nasir's for the long seconds before their lips touched again.

A, P, B, N, O :)
A - Current OTP? Shit. I mean... It's Catwin. We all know it. Why bother trying to hide it?
P - OK, this is for the Avengers. The AU is that, instead of Clint getting taken over by Loki, it was Natasha - which turns out to be super scary because she's able to infiltrate and get information in ways Clint couldn't even dream of. And he's assigned to take her out because nothing they do manages to bring her back - and Nick says something like, "And this time, Clint, there's no saving her."
B - Hmmm... Cat/Stannis for sure. I never even considered them, but then melisandreinwonderland gave me that request and now that pairing makes me want to curl up in a ball and cry.
N - No Featherbed for Me = ruined my life HOW IS THIS ONLY FANFICTION. I JUST CANNOT. gendryspenis aka Stevie - I just...give me everything Stevie writes and I'll be happy.
O - One Week of Danger by The Virgins = THEON'S THEME SONG (pre-reek). All he wants is to have sex OK. Awwwww yeah.
pretty sure i'm converting you to the lydia x peter side. multishipping is a sweet sweet kingdom, ah, and lydia is the ultimate shipping bicycle <3
Man, I am already there. I may feel shady and creepy as fuck shipping it, but I won't even deny it. It's weird because I ship her and Jackson so hard (what IS this multishipping business?! I haven't experienced this since Hermione, and now I ship practically everyone on TW with practically everyone else), and that's super dysfunctional and bordering on abusive as well and I guess -- kind of raising some questions about TW's treatment of her character (I'm really over this "Woman has to be abused before becoming ~strong" trope, but then -- she's only ever really depicted as 'weak' when she is with Peter or Jackson [which is in itself problematic to me] and ugh god I kind of hate this and myself right now) but um.
Yeah.
I ship it. I really do.
