Hey how do you like West campus? Is it easy to meet people there? And what is the party scene like at BU?
Hey! I love West Campus, it was my top choice for housing. There are no common rooms so some people say it has no community, but we do. I live on an all girls floor, not by choice but because of how high the girl-to-guy ratio is here, and so it’s really quiet. I feel that a floor gets the closest when there are both guys and girls on the floor, not just one sex. It tends to be pretty quiet on our floor but my floor-mates and I in our corner of the floor have gotten really close, so no matter where you live or if it’s coed or single sex, you’re bound to meet people on your floor and become friends with a few. My main group of friends I met in my FYSOP, First Year Service Outreach Program, group, we live all over campus but we see each other all the time. I highly recommend FYSOP, though it is $500. More on that at bu.edu/csc/opportunities/community-service-center-programs/fysop
You also meet a lot of people in class and during welcome week and orientation.
I chose West Campus because I’m not into the whole rowdy freshmen thing and wanted something quieter. I also wanted to be right next to the gym and the hockey arena. West is closest to CGS, SHA, and CFA and farther away from all the other colleges, but the BU BUS leaves from West Campus every 10 min in the mornings so I never have to worry about being late to class.
I do not, in no shape or form, party and BU is big enough that I can totally avoid it. Do I see drunk people on the weekends? Yes. Do I hear them screaming outside my opened window sometimes? Yes. But I don’t have to interact with them if I don’t want to. My main group of friends don’t party either and on weekends we mostly go to the hockey games and then will decide afterwards if we’ll do something else too.
West Campus is right next to Alston which is where the BU Frats and most of the parties are located.
