An Author’s Portal
The process of writing is complex. It demands an understanding of not only the concepts being portrayed but also of the individuals who are cast to be its vessels. It is not merely putting words to a page but a connection, one between author and reader, that communicates another reality. The reader seeks to be transported to a time, to an emotion, or for an escape. As an author, you become the portal-holder. You are the key through which multiple words can be accessed. Different genres of writing offer their own turbulence. Tragedies and angst send the reader down emotional uncertainty. While other such concepts (fluff etc) present their own challenges. For me, angst holds a certain lure. It’s a good foundation point to either ascend into something which promotes a positive change or it can, and usually does, spiral down into the depths of human depravity. Its the center of recognition. That pivotal point in which something is recognized. Something is shifted, changed, and/or altered forcing action. Whether that action is emotion, physical or mental, it acts as a catalyst. There is so much you can gain from the beginning with angst that is flavored with emotion.
Fluff and/or romance has more challenges. It demands you pull from experiences, examples of tenderness and affection. It asks that you pour into it the quiet affections and whispered thoughts. it asks that you see beyond the surface for so much more. To taste of relational bliss and understanding. Fluff is challenging in that it is fleeting and evasive. How do you capture the serenity of an embrace? How do you portray blissful adoration? These are my questions that gnaw at my mind with each piece. These are born of expectations to fulfill my obligations as a writer to you, my reader. It is the pressure of not knowing what you seek and aiming to provide despite this challenge. I am the portal-holder, your travel agent, our destination is being refined…. Are you ready?
