hello, this is just a follow up to your rant the other day, but you said something that made me curious.
when you expressed your frustration with people asking you to write the reader in a certain way, you said it would be “out of character.” however, when doing “x reader” content, isn’t the reader supposed to act how the general audience wants them to? if you wanted the “reader” to act in a way that you find enjoyable to write, make them an oc rather than a character meant to represent readers.
this isn’t supposed to be hateful at all, but it could be a solution to some people bitching about it!
When I write x reader content, I want reader to remain realistic to the world/narrative they're in. While yes, I write x reader stuff, it's fundamentally still a story where how the reader acts has to make sense. In my MHA AU, for example, reader isn't from Japan, was pressured into becoming a hero, and has a quirk they barely understand. I personally don't think someone like that would just be able to emotionally stand up to bullying or mistreatment. In my Forgotten TWST AU, Readers emotionally dependency with Yuu and the fact that they're in a completely different world doesn't really allow for them to just fight back against people who have so much more power and influence then them. Even after explaining my thought process and why I wrote the readers in these ways, I was still getting people complaining about it or asking the same questions, and it just got annoying.
Also, and sorry if this sounds rude, but this is my blog and my writing. I write readers that I would want to see because that's who I made my blog for in the first place. This might be unpopular, but I like readers that are a bit awkward and self conscious and who don't always have it all figured out all the time because I can relate to that more. I create concepts with readers that I want to see because for as many people who like the ultra confident, independent, and self assured reader, there are people like me who want to see readers that they can relate to on some level.
So I don't necessarily think it's wrong to say a reader I wrote in a concept I made can be out of character. It's still a self insert, don't get me wrong, but I still believe certain aspects of a world/narrative can have an affect on the reader, and therefore trying to go against that would make the reader out of character.
