Nurse Me
The camp medic had no sooner informed him of Tala’s location before Luke had bolted inside the tent. It was cramped and hot and smelled of sickness. The condition only worsened by Luke’s tall stature as he hunkered over to keep his head from knocking down the tent poles that held up the ceiling.
When he saw her he froze. She lay on a low cot in the corner of the tent. Unlike the other wounded in the tent, Tala had the privilege of a flimsy curtain to shield her a little. She was swathed in bandages from the wounds she had attained in battle and, though Luke wouldn’t have thought it possible, was nearly as white as those bandages.
"Tala." Luke said his voice suddenly choked with emotion.
He made his way to her and eased himself to the ground beside her cot. Her long lashes were black as soot against the dull palor of her skin and her face was coated in a sheen of sweat.
"They really did a number on you, eh Babe?" he kept his voice low and gentle thinking that she was still asleep and was surprised and delighted to see her eyes flutter open and regard him with recognition.
"L-Luke…?"
"Shhhh…I’m here, Tala." he quieted her seeing the amount of energy it took for her just to utter his name.
Luke placed a gentle hand against her brow and smiled when she closed her eyes and leaned into his hand. He was distressed by the intensity of the warmth in her skin and cast a look around to see if there was someone who could help him.
He wasn’t used to this. Not having a hospital to call or the ever present hovering of a more experienced person to pick up the pieces for him…It was sobering and frankly more than a little scary.
Luke noticed a bowl of water and a cloth near her bedside, no doubt intended to help keep the fever down and he felt his spirits lift a little. He shifted closer to her cot and squeezed some of the water out of the cloth with a determined look.
"I’m gonna take care of you, Tala." he assured putting the cool fabric against the fire of her skin. "I’ve gotcha."
Break Me
Luke felt his heart pounding as they ran together—or rather, as he ran behind Tala. His long legs seemed to be the only reason he could even keep her in sight. Even at her breakneck speed, she carried herself with the poised grace of someone who had done this a thousand times before.
Tala’s long hair trailed behind her like a dark banner and Luke kept his eyes on it letting Tala keep him going. Damn he was out of shape!
He was still at a loss as to how he had ended up on Tala’s world. They would figure that out later. He did remember how quickly they had been attacked by the saber cat after their arrival and the chase that had ensued and continued to the present moment. He was unsure as to how long his endurance would last.
Luke was no warrior. He knew that well. He was aware that his video games could not prepare him for the slight chance that they would ever become reality…Although he had definetly never fathomed that he would find himself in that moment…
"LUKE, DOWN!" Tala’s commanding voice had him dropping to his stomach before he even registered himself making the movement. Something small and fast zipped above him and Luke saw Tala dart back toward the cat. He wanted to call her back but found he didn’t have the energy.
His breath panted out tiredly pushing small amounts of the dust on the ground to scatter away from him. He thought briefly that it was a good thing Tala had told him to stop because he was at the end of his endurance…
A loud yelp of pain sent his head snapping around to the source of the sound. Tala stood over the saber cat with a long, bloodied sword in her hand. Although it was clear that the great cat was dead, Tala seemed almost sorrowful as she stood there. The arrow between the cat’s eyes was story enough as to how she had brought it down.
"T-Tala…" Luke got out hoarsely and her eyes flickered back up to him. Her gaze read concern and she slung her bow over her shoulder before she moved over to him and offered a hand to pull him up.
"It’s not safe here." she said sending a glance darting around the woods around them "We need to move now."

"Crap. I'm high."
Fen glanced, with both eyebrows raised, at his can of Double Fudge Yoo-hoo and remained motionless as he poured the rest of his drink onto the grass. Grass. Real grass too--the earthly aroma was enough to convince him. He was standing on long, lush grass in a wide, open area when he was supposed to be in his bedroom, cramped and dark, drinking his Yoo-hoo, bantering with Liu about what to have for dinner later, and changing into his uniform for his shift at a milk tea joint. He had work in five minutes. He was going to be late.
"Imma get fired again," he muttered. The can, now empty save for the few droplets lining its opening and refusing to water the grass, fell from Fen's grasp as the hand traveled to Fen's head, its fingers finding themselves entangled in thick hair. "Crap. How the--where--oy. Liu. Liu? Where you at?"
Grumbling curses from at least three languages, Fen turned, feeling, vaguely, the sensation of being watched. It was a young woman, but it wasn't the white-haired woman who was about to put him in a headlock for ignoring her. It was a young woman wearing what looked to be armor.
"The he--" His brow furrowed. "Hey. Nice whatever-you-have-on. You... uh... going to Comic Con or somethin'?"

Luke offered the girl a slightly intimidated smile. "H-hi." He cleared his throat before extending a sweaty hand "I'm Luke. And you are...?"
