Felipe’s Top 5 Episodes of Generation Animation
With the 3 Year Anniversary of FanOff’s venture into animation podcasts being right around the corner, I decided to list my 5 favorite episodes of the show. Note that this is talking about the episode itself, and not about the topic we reviewed. Links to all episodes in the bold text.
#5: Episode 154 - “Steven Universe”
This episode is one of our most recent with half of the panel going in blind. What is great about this episode is that while we disagreed on almost everything (except our love for Connie), the arguments ended up being more fun than heated, and ended on a weird but amazing existential talk on differing opinions.
#4: Episode 3 - “Jem & The Holograms” The first two episodes of the show, while I still believe are done well, acted more like a feeling-out process. But this episode is where we first started getting our identity. A lot of fun was had by poking fun at the many problems and oddities within this 80s classic while also pointing out the positives.
#3: Episode 108 - “SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron”
Just because we like a show doesn’t mean we can’t tear apart it’s logical loopholes. Dave’s “Swiss Cheese” line may be one of my favorites of the entire history of the podcast, and there is some really interesting discussion around the way the characters are.
#2: Episode 38 - “Ikki Tousen”
With a show so over the top and NSFW as this, Ikki Tousen did lead us to all sorts of interesting observations and nervous laughter as we questioned what the hell we just watched. From whether or not a character is actually Snoop Dogg, to if an old man taught a woman how to explode her Vagina, this episode is wild!
#1: Episode 121 - “Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem”
With the help of David Hopkins of Hideous Energy, this episode has it all. Praising the music of Daft Punk and finding symbolism about the music industry won’t stop us from talking about giant space vaginas and questioning the choices of these characters. We couldn’t contain ourselves by the time we reached the conclusion of this film and I find it to be my favorite episode. Here are some honorable mentions in chronological order!
