pointing out skibidi toilet specifically as a source of “unique gen alpha brainrot” is soooo funny because shitposty gmod videos could not be more of a tradition across the generations that grew up with the internet.

This twitter thread sucks.
There's a lot of people dunking on Gen Z and Gen Alpha for being scared of opening .exe files, and like... I dunno... that's a valid fear? And probably not rooted in a dead meme?
Like... speaking as a millennial, I was taught to never open .exe files from a source you don't trust? Like, if you're opening an application from a disk or downloading it from an official website it's fine, but it's never a good idea to open files from random e-mails and discord servers or seedy websites? Even when your pirating something, you have to make sure the application your getting is from an okay-ish source from someone in the community and not a random bot.
If I'm a young kid and have no idea what "winrar" is, of course I'd be suspicious.
i really wish some people just accepted they're zoomers despite all the progressivism and et cetera people still see the younger generation as cringe and try to distance themselves from it
most of the older zoomers keeps saying they're a millennial. you're not. millenials are 36 yos.
hey!
hey!
hey!
hi gen z. my people. I love you. but I have been told, on numerous occasions that I am an old woman in a 17 year old body. maybe thats whose writing this post. that bitch.
gen z. shut the fuck up. please. yall are annoying as hell. like genuinely. stop labeling everything you are. stop it. its not that important.
stop canceling people. I dont care if that person said something shitty before we were born. I dont care if they hurt your feelings. your feelings are not a reason to ruin someone's life, to take away their livelihood. and we, this generation is so quick to follow. so dont say "i didnt say I wanted everyone to agree with me and share my post" because we absolutely will, even if we have no information. you know what you're doing.
also!! everything isn't offensive!! no!! and when something is, you know what *isnt* the right solution?? to bully that person to the point where they delete their social media page. to taunt and call names and send death threats and all that jazz. thats not okay. that is just as bad, if not worse, than what that person said. stop it. if you dont like something, stop supporting the person. stop buying or watching. be active about it, not evil. because bullying is evil. its wrong. and fighting fire with fire doesnt do anything but burn everyone.
and finally. I have a problem with this, too. im guilty of it. stop being so mean to *yourself.* you are beautiful, you are loved, you are intelligent and you have the entire world at your fingertips, honey. we are an *amazing* generation with so much talent and activism (when done correctly) and strength. we were born into a *fucked* up world and we just do not know what to do with it. but we have to try a little harder, and do a little better because we deserve that. we got the short end of the stick, but that doesnt mean we can't be better. we are amazing. lets show everybody else, right?
Okay honestly though, "OK Boomer" was great when it was being actively used against actual boomers being twats. It was a symbol, it had meaning: "I have heard your argument and deemed it outdated. I am choosing to acknowledge you, but not to validate your out of touch thinking."
Then the internet went ham, and decided anyone they didn't agree with deserved that same treatment. It went from a funny way to tackle a serious issue (in politics no less) to a gross sign of blatant disrespect. Not towards our elders, but towards anyone and everyone we don't agree with wholeheartedly.
"OK Boomer" has become a poor and evasive substitute for civil argument and discussion.
:(
We had a good thing going and y'all broke it.
I don’t know what’s worse: that my Gen X husband has never seen Shrek, or my dawning horror that I will need to sit through and watch the entirety of Shrek once more.
