would you consider a person having sex with their parent-in-law incest? like, i wouldn't, they're not related. but it's not not-incest either. the family structure is clearly structuring in a way that is not commonly understood as standard. i am asking in a "ao3 tagging etiquette/general Terminology" way, be they way, i'm not asking about the morality of it or whatever.
actually my kneejerk response is that i would consider it incest if the person is married to their partner, like having sex with your boyfriend's mother isn't incest, but with your MIL is. which makes sense terms wise, when you marry into the family you're a part of it. but That's Stupid! it's the same relationship.
i think step-sibling and step-parent kinks are considered incestual in nature despite no gene relation. so i guess this is too. but like, your partner's parent is just some other guy..... feels like diluting the term. (where's this post about how you can't fuck your spouse bc you're a family together.)
