Hi, so I'm a trans girl, not had surgery or started hormones. I was reading up on stuff to do with transitioning to being a girl and I heard something about dilating, but I'm not 100% sure I understand it, if u could explain it for me or give me some sources to look at I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks :)
So I think what you’re asking about is what is required of you after SRS/GRS.
Essentially dilating is what is required in order to keep the internal shape of the neo-vagina, otherwise the muscles will close shut and you’ll need to have another surgery to fix it.
Basically when the neo-vagina is made, the opening is cut out of the muscle and that muscle needs to be trained to stay open. It’s new and doesn’t know what to do. In the beginning you will have to do it several times a day, but I believe after the first year the number of times drops down to once a week or if you are having penetrative sex on a regular basis you don’t have to do it at all.
One great source of information on this would be PRINCESSJOULES on youtube, I’m pretty sure she has an entire playlist documenting her experiences with dilation.
Hope that helps :)
