On December 30th, Gabriel managed to surprise Sam & the girls with a little New Year’s Eve trip. A two bedroom suite in the heart of San Francisco, floor to ceiling windows that faced the bay. Tickets for a special food event in Chinatown where you went from restaurant to restaurant, sampling as you went. Then dinner that night, it wasn’t black tie, but it was fancy enough that the girls were excited. Afterward they would get dessert & watch the fireworks from the rooftop of their hotel.
He made sure Libby had a new knit hat with a sparkly pom pom that matched her new purple unicorn coat. And mittens & a scarf too, as did Mira. It could get chilly down by the bay. He wanted his girls to enjoy themselves & to do that, they needed to be cosy.
They checked into the hotel early, around 10am, & they were able to take their overnight bags to their suite. Gabriel had a garment bag with a pair of dress pants & a dress shirt & sport coat. The girls had sparkly dresses for dinner. Once everything was hung up, the girls were bundled up, they headed out.
Sam held Mira’s hand, Gabriel held Libby’s & they walked all over. They explored every bit of Chinatown, all the bright colors & different foods. Mira was a bit more brave then Libby about trying things, but Libby tried almost everything.
They decided to take the cable car to Fisherman’s Wharf. The girls always enjoyed it, as did Gabriel. The cable car was predictably crowded as it was New Year’s Eve. It gave him the perfect opportunity to finally press fully up against Sam’s side, ostensibly to allow someone off the car. In reality it was so he could let Sam feel the cage he was wearing. He was still holding Libby’s hand, because he wasn’t going to let himself forget his first priority for the moment. But he allowed himself to glance up at Sam from under his eyelashes to gauge his reaction.
