I pose this question mainly to alchemyprime, skippythewonderchicken, asellus, and gentlemannerd, but I open it up to any table-top roleplayers. My question is thus; If the Harry Potter series were transfered into the Pathfinder or Dnd 3.5, how would you treat character leveling? I have two theories. Theory the first: one or two levels per 'year', with seventh year ideally placing you at 14th level with 7th or 8th level spells (class depending). Theory the second: one level a year, but increased spell progression due to excelerated learning. The prompt that started this was the Tri-Wizard tournament (book 4), where Harry competes against students three years older than himself, yet wins. I would argue that because he was so much at a level handicap going into the first task, he leveled up at the end of it, then leveled up again at the end of the second task. Compound this with his adventures in books 1-3, and Harry has some extra XP to spend. In addition, consider Hermione, who spends all her time reading spells and researching, but doesn't seem to have any more power than Ron. On the topic of Ron; he's rather lazy, and barely passes classes. How should his level work? Maybe a non-spell based class based on Quiddich, as that is where his strength lies? What are your thoughts?
