Day Five: Man’s Best Friend About Your Apprentice’s Familiar

Lughnasa, Alexander’s familiar (and oldest friend), is a cheeky and slightly obnoxious magpie. Among her hobbies are Shiny Things, puckishly annoying the other characters, preening both her feathers and Alexander’s hair, and ‘singing along’ to his fife playing.  Alexander rescued her as an orphan fledgling when he was in his early teens, and they’ve been inseparable ever since. She helps with his magic practice by doing things like scouting for ingredients or carrying things to and from Sacha’s desk while he’s working, and they share the same kind of telepathic communication as Asra and Faust.  In addition to this, a small ‘side effect’ of their connection so to speak, is that when Alexander laughs it sounds very similar to Lughnasa’s cawing.    While she’s more openly playful and cheery than her human, she definitely shares his grumpy streak, and she has a habit of nipping hard with her beak when annoyed.

Day Seven: Dear Husband Your apprentice built a life with their partner. What does it look like?

“I pledge to you that it will be your eyes into which I smile every morning. I pledge to you my living and my dying, both equally in your care. I shall be a shield for your back, and you for mine.”

Rounding off Gentlemen Apprentice’s Week with a wedding! By the time Asra and Alexander do get married, it’s been a ceremony a long time coming. They choose to make it a very quiet affair for just themselves, their familiars and their closest friends, followed by a long honeymoon in Nopal and beyond (meaning more than a few forays to the Magician’s beach). They’ve been together a long time by now, but getting married to them signals the start of a new chapter in their lives, one that won’t be interrupted by plague and tragedy, and one that they can look forward to for the rest of their lives.

For this, I took some inspiration from aspects of celtic/pagan marriage traditions, for example the act of handfasting, and the vows are from a popular set used by couples today.

Day Six: (boy)Friends to Lovers On Physical Intimacy With Their LI

Despite his personality being somewhat reserved and quiet, physical intimacy (both sexual and non-sexual) is something that comes fairly easily to Alexander once he is close enough to someone for said intimacy to occur in the first place. While he isn’t touch averse with his friends and acquaintances, he usually finds other ways to show his affection.  With his LI, however, he’s more tactile than with anyone else, communicating with touch even more than words because he’s that comfortable with them (though verbal consent is still of the utmost importance, especially when scenarios like the one depicted are involved!)
