My Dad: Hop in the car, everyone, we're going...
What is geocaching?
Geocaching:
My Dad downloads GPS coordinates that other nerds with GPS's have put on geocacheing.com. These nerds have put prizes hidden at these coordinates, in things like empty peanut butter jars and ammo cans: you have to go there, find the container, sign the log book, go back and hit the internet to boast.
How it usually works though: My dad drives us out into the middle of nowhere with a gleam in his eye. "It has to be here!" he says. Thirty minutes, two accidental trespasses, a thorn thicket, and a bazillion mosquito bites later, my mom, my brother and I are sitting on convenient logs while my dad stalks back and forth muttering "fifteen feet... thirteen feet... back up to eighteen feet..." with occasional bouts of "But it has to be here!" (Occasionally we do in fact find a geocache, but after nearly six years my father still hasn't learned the first thing about triangulating or even to check the cache description to make sure that the cache won't be, say, under two feet of snow when we go there.)
