I faced this error yesterday while working on a GeoKettle plugin:
Exception in thread “main” java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.pentaho.di.i18n.BaseMessages.getString(Ljava/lang/Class;Ljava/lang/String;[Ljava/lang/String;)Ljava/lang/String;
Apparently this happens when there is a version mismatch of the jars included in your project and those used by GeoKettle/Spoon.
