George Clinton: The Rhythm of Vision One of the best things I like to do is just randomly go for a long walk to kill time even though people in LA hate walking (y’all call yourself wellness freaks but you ain’t!) and stumbling into art shows. Well this was a holy grail. I stumbled into one of my favorite galleries, Jeffrey Deitch, for the opening of George Clinton’s first art exhibition in Los Angeles. Red Hot Chili Peppers "Hollywood (Africa)" 12" Single. I quickly realized as a pre-teen in the early 90's that the RHCP were going to be a compilation band for me. Obviously, I had "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" and aside from the classic singles, I didn't glean much else from it at the time, it sounded kinda hokey and silly to me, though I thought the big songs were really excellent. Then EMI cashed in and put out "What Hits!?" that basically made one great album out of their first four. I got that because I adored "Behind The Sun" and who doesn't enjoy their cover of "Higher Ground"? Anyhow, I got the 2003 Greatest Hits double LP of Warner Bros. stuff and considered buying "What Hits!?" On vinyl but it is too expensive and 67 minutes long, yet only a single LP, so it probably sounds terrible. As such, I needed to piece together a few essential EMI-era songs. I have a 45 of "Behind The Sun", the full "Mother's Milk" LP, and this 12", so now I have most of the RHCP music I require on vinyl.
