The funny thing is it's not even a ruse. Everything Dr. Killenger says is true and he's just trying to make Rusty live up to his full potential. The problem lies in that Killenger is an advocate for villainy and that Rusty is so attached to the guise of 'Dr. Venture' he doesn't except the pathos and reasoning of being a bad guy even though he would honestly excell at it.
Ruse is an oversimplification yeah, and it pretty much is true, the point of the post is more that the show has the most insane plot points and trying to explain a single episode to an outsider is a huge task in itself. I'm not good with words.
