I may have posted about this. I can't remember.
But Cry Little Sister is so interesting to me, because most of the verses don't actually make sense!
They're just fragments of sentences and just reading them, they're don't really connect! They make no sense together!
For example:
"Last fire will rise; behind those eyes; black house will rock; blind boys don't lie"
So, "last fire will rise behind those eyes" makes some sense, but instead of completing that thought, the next two lines are " black house will rock; blind boys don't lie"
And those don't make sense together! They're just incomplete fragments of something!
And there's a bunch of this throughout the song.
And yet... Who of us are actually confused to what this song is about?
We all know it's about loneliness!
And yet just think that's SO FUCKING COOL!
Somehow, Gerard McMann wrote lyrics that don't make sense and once he put them to music, THEY SUDDENLY DO MAKE SENSE!
And it probably helps that the chorus is different and it makes sense.
But still...
That doesn't seem like something just anyone could do!
And he did it for a fucking movie!
And I just often think about this when I listen to "Cry Little Sister".
