You know, I thought the playlist format was a good idea to go through all I'm downloading, and is also giving me regular content to put on this blog rather than me having to kind of wing it every time. Win/win situation, really. This month i listened to one album/ep a year, counting down from 2025 to 1963, all genre, no repeated artists.
Now, a couple new things :
Youtube is asking me to login to "prove I'm not a bot" and I'm not gonna do that, so there will only be a preview of the songs in posts if tumblr lets me upload them. Otherwise, previews always were available on the mega download link for individual files ♪
I'm going to slowly start x-posting these on ko-fi, cause I figured it made sense, considering the work I put into this 🤔 DO NOT WORRY I am NEVER going to paywall my little project, but I will put a link for tips on each post.
But, as usual :
Song titles link to individual mp3 file preview and download
All 5 songs can also be downloaded together in a zip file from the link at the bottom
So there's all I listened to, and here↓ are my highlights :3
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Spanish Castle Magic
So like, on paper I knew that blues had led to metal, but I was missing the link between blues and 70's metal. I think I found it, now !
I'm really glad I listened this, it really was missing to my culture !
Little Miss Lover, Wait Until Tomorrow, and If 6 Was 9 are also very much so worth listening~
Spanish Castle Magic was on the Axis: Bold As Love album, from 1967 (thought that was my entry for '68 cause I guess I downloaded the american edition lol)
Sorry, no preview due to copyrights and capitalism.
Diana Ross - Dark Side Of The World
I was brought here by Ain't No Mountain High Enough (that you may know from the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell version, like I did), and I almost put it here, but Dark Side Of The World really grew on me as I was re-listening to my final picks ! Though, not gonna lie, there's a lot of forgettable songs on this album, but what's worth listening to on here is really worth listening to ! (so both the opening (Reach Out And Touch) and closing tracks (Dark Side of The World) and Ain't no Mountain basically)
Dark Side Of The World was on Diana Ross' eponymous debut solo album, from 1970.

Donna Summer - Oh Billy Please
What an excellent album omfg I was not expecting that, like i could have uploaded half the album here cause they all were so good !!!
Supernatural Love, It's Not The Way, There Goes My Baby, Suzanna, Cats Without Claws, Eyes, Maybe it's Over... the album just kept giving ! So I went with the first coup de coeur that Oh Billy Please was for me. It was instant ! The chorus hit and I was like YES !! THAT is what is going in the rotation. I did want to give the others a chance, but yeah, billy won lol
Oh Billy Please is on Cats Without Claws, released in 1984, and that really was my favourite album I listened to, this month !!!

Vilain Pingouin - Le Train
Now the Vilain Pingouin (literally the Nasty Penguin lol) wasn't a first listen for me at all, as this is one of these bands my mother was listening to when I was a child. She could probably use to listen to that album again, and really pay attention to the lyrics this time, idk, je dis ça, je dis rien !
But also, I guess the subject matter is still the same, it's still relevant, 35 years later. Also, also I didnt remember Laurence Jalbert was their back vocalist, so that was a pleasant surprise ! I really liked hearing her on Sous La Pluie. Ainsi Soit-il also almost was what I uploaded, but in the end, I went with the iconic Le Train as the lyrics speak to me more, at the moment
Le Train is on Vilain Pingouin's eponymous album from 1990

Britney Spears - Shattered Glass
Ngl I completely overlooked that album, when it was released. I would have enjoyed that overall sound, but I guess it was 2008 and that I thought I had better things to listen to than Britney Spears (I was probably listening to Kaya's Ophelia in loop instead lmao)
I was gonna put Kill the Lights, here, but then I got an idea for another rotation with that one, so I was left to chose between Shattered Glass, which I went with, and Unusual You, and Rock Me In. It's really not a bad little pop album I think~
You can find Shattered Glass on the Circus album, released in 2008.

So, in the last rotation, I said I was going to listen to something more recent of hers, so I went to listen to her 2024 album. Yeah, I guess I was right to think she probably didn't get to do much of what she wanted to be doing with her first album, huh. This album mixes the Nina Simone influence with some of the 90's french punk influence, riot grrl flavoured with notes of industrial and hip hop; it's far from the chanson thing the first album was going for.
Like, please do listen to the whole album, but some of my other highlights from this for me were SUICIDE, ANGER, and BITCH YOU COULD NEVER
STUPID(E) is a track from MENTAL, an album released in 2024
