“Every day is a work day”—June Leaf (1929–2024)
Artist, and wife of Robert Frank.
"We’re deeply saddened to hear of the passing of June Leaf, an inspirational artist and dear friend to us at Steidl over many years. June was nowhere happier than in her studio—where she worked every day for over seven decades—and was deeply committed to her processes of creation. “The work isn’t finished” is the title of a book on her art we’re currently making: so too will June’s curiosity, tenacity and warmth live on".

How to Make a Book with Steidl
How to Make a Book with Steidl [trailer]
In this age of digital media, Gerhard Steidl stands as one of the few remaining publishers to maintain an unwavering commitment to the quality and craftsmanship of the printed book.
Love this documentary. Steidl is a perfectionist. At times he can be a little "eccentric", but you have to admire his dedication and craftsmanship. He has the same work ethic as the piano tuner Stefan Knüpfer from Pianomania.
I initially was a bit disappointed that the doc spends so much time following the development of the iDubai book, because its content seems to trivial. But over time it turns out to be a very fitting example, how Steidl becomes part of the creative process. The form of presentation that's chosen in the end significantly enhances the content of the book.
