An early apartment building for the Monied Class at a time when only the poor lived in apartment housing.  On Central Park West, it originally seemed to many as remote as the Dakota Territory, but this was no tenement.

With just four to eight units per floor, each home boasted electric lighting, maid's rooms, two bathrooms, elevator access, and tenants could either eat in the grand dining room or have meals sent up via dumbwaiters. 

Sometimes backhandedly described as German Brewery Gothic, most of the building has since been subdivided into much smaller, yet still exclusive, co-op units.  Attic storage and servant's rooms are now highly coveted apartments including one still owned by sassy Rex Reed.  It remains today an Exclusive Fortress where only those deemed Worthy will be allowed to Pay. 

Yeah...  but I want to live there too.
