Court Ball at the Hofburg (also known as Hofball in Wien) (1900). Wilhelm Gause (German-Austrian, 1853-1916). Watercolor. Wien Museum.
Wilhelm Gause studied at the Düsseldorf Academy, and in 1888 exhibited his work in Vienna. Perhaps Gause's most famous work is Court Ball at the Hofburg. Created in 1900, it hangs today within the walls of the Wien Museum Karlsplatz, Vienna, Austria. It depicts aristocrats crowding around Franz Joseph I of Austria at the Hofburg Imperial Palace while couples dance to the music.

Flags of German-Austrian Imperial Union
from /r/vexillology Top comment: So, I made a flag like this a few days ago and some people disagreed with the design somewhat, so I made these two alternate designs in a reply to one of the comments under the original. Unfortunately, the one on the right got reposted by another user under the OC tag. I don't mind people reposting my stuff but I'd like to at least get acknowledged in a comment or smth. Anyway, without any further drama, here's the two alternative versions of my original German-Austrian Union flag. Here's links to the individual flags if you want to wave them around or whatever: [https://imgur.com/a/igtq3WG](https://imgur.com/a/igtq3WG) and [https://imgur.com/a/HbIoBSP](https://imgur.com/a/HbIoBSP) And, lastly, I understand that some people will question various things like the German tricolor being at the hoist, for example, and that's okay. Just understand that I didn't make this flag based on any conception of the likelihood of such a union (with such a flag) ever actually taking shape. I just made it for fun, purely for aesthetic purposes, without any ideological or political meaning behind it.
