German fact No. 135: Every two years in Germany each car has to undergo an examination where it is determined if it is still road safe. 

If it is deemed road safe you get a badge on your license plate that also indicates when the next examination has to take place. If it isn’t the car is no longer allowed to drive on German roads and you have to fix whatever faulty thing the examiners indicated. Then you will get the license again.
