She wasn’t going to get involved. Not like she wanted to, but she also couldn’t. News had spread that Germany was planning on moving more of it’s troops into France. There was already a battle going on, but she had never heard of it happening anywhere else.
Laura sat at her table, sipping tea and laughing with a guest that decided to visit. With all the war going on, she didn’t have to worry if someone was going to invade. She didn’t have to plan out war methods and round up her army. It was peaceful, and everyone else knew that. A knock on her door halted their conversation and she raised an eyebrow before standing. As the knocking proceeded, but faster, she hurried and opened the door, to reveal a man who looked completely terrified.
“Miss Laura, it’s the Germans! They are at the border, you need to come quick!” He panted heavily, waving her over as he began moving backwards.
Sighing and blinking irritably, she followed the man and rode with him as they headed just a couple miles away. “Is it Ludwig? I swear I will send him back with a black eye. Do you know how much trouble he causes me?”
The man nodded, visibly shaking. “Yes Miss. He brought his army with him. Just try not to anger him, alright?”
Laughing, she smiled at him and placed a hand over his. “I know. Now don’t worry. I won’t let anything happen to my country. There is no need to be afraid. Stay strong, I promise it’ll all be okay.” He nodded and a smile broke through.
Reaching the border, she walked over to the German man, whose stoic expression didn’t waver. His blue eyes narrowed slightly, but that was all. She held her hands together and gave him a warm but firm smile. He sneered slightly but avoided eye contact. “We need to come through. No questions, just step aside.”
“I can’t allow that. If you enter my country and I don’t do a thing to stop you, our neutrality will be diminished, and I don’t want that. Now go back, and we won’t have any problems.” She kept the smile, eyes focus directly on him.
“I have my orders, so you need move out of the way, or I will kill every single one of you!” Ludwig growled, his brows furrowing. She flinched a bit, but hoped he hadn’t seen, though it was lost when she notice him smirk.
Laura turned her head away, eyes scanning the soldiers behind him. “I’m not going to ask politely, or beg on my knees. Stay away from here, I mean it.”
Ludwig laughed hatefully and grabbed a lock of her hair. He leaned in close, eyes taunting but also mocking. His breath was hot on her skin and he had a keen smile. “Why not? Do you not like to be on your knees in front of me?”
Eyes wild and body full of rage, she swiped his hand away from her and she pushed him back. “How dare you! Why did I think differently back then!? Why didn’t I see what you have now become hidden under your smile?!” Her yelling caused the soldiers to stir, but they didn’t dare move to attack without permission. “When you come back, don’t think for one minute that I won’t be prepared to fight!”
Snorting, he sneered and walked away, his military behind him. Burning with hatred, Laura crossed her arms and left the border. Looking at the same man, she nibbled anxiously on her lower lip. “I need you to round up my military. Get as many as you can, and tell them to get ready. He will be back I know it. Ludwig isn’t the type to just give up after being yelled at.” The man nodded and the rest of the way was filled with silence as she wasn’t in the mood to talk.
-----------
Laura stood in front of her own Military, trying to hold her composure. It was hard, now that old memories were stirred up and she couldn’t stop thinking about them. A tap on her shoulder brought her back to the reality and she turned. A man saluted her, to which she nodded. He then pointed, to see the German troops walking over the border.
Glaring, she stepped forward, holding her hand out in front of Ludwig. “We can’t let you pass. Please, just turn back so we don’t have to do this.”
Ludwig sighed and reached out, placing a firm hand on her shoulder. “I know how you feel about this. That’s why you should just let us pass, and we won’t need a fight.” A slight sneer covered his face and she couldn’t help but flinch. “Come on, do it for me?”
Eyes narrowed, she stepped back, shaking her head. “Arthur will not let you marching into my country go unnoticed, and neither will I. So go away or-” Ludwig growled and pulled his arm back, crashing his gloved palm against her cheek before she could finish.
“How dare you!? I had given you an easy way out of this, and you deny if for the sake of words with English and Frenchmen? Are you hiding behind Arthur now?” He spat the Englishman’s name. “What have they done that I couldn’t?” He grabbed her arm and pulled her to the ground. Rearing back his leg, she didn’t have time to prepare for the pain that was about to begin. His boot hit her side and she cried out, unable to breath and wanting to vomit at the same time.
The tension surrounding the two caused uneasiness to the soldiers and shots started being fired. Ludwig retreated so he wouldn’t be caught in the crossfire, and a couple soldiers pulled Laura from the dirt, dragging her out of range. Entering a building, she nodded to them, standing on her own but holding onto her side. “I’ll be fine.” She lied through gritted teeth. That kicked could have caused her serious damage, but she wasn’t going to let it affect her.
“We need to push them back as much as we can. There is no way we can let them just waltz right in here. Get the best men we have and start working out strategies. I need to find Ludwig and put a stop to this.” The soldiers gave her a look, and she walked away, not wanting to explain their past to them.
Throwing a rifle around her shoulders, she set out to find the dreadful man. She hated fighting, but if she must, then it was only right. Gun shots echoed in her ears as she raced behind soldiers, trying to reach the nearest building. Yet, she didn’t have a clue who could be waiting in the building, but pray it was soldiers from her own military.
She deemed wrong as she rounded the corner and was grabbed quickly. Hands moved to her throat, squeezing once before shoving her roughly against a wall. Trying to catch her breath from the pain searing through her head, she peaked out from under her eyelids to a face she was searching for, but now she regretted it.
“Don’t tell me you were looking for me?” Ludwig smirked and leaned in close. “How sweet. Do you miss me?”
“Not particularly.” Laura growled quietly, glaring at him. “You need to stop this. I don’t want anyone to die for your mistakes.”
Ludwig tightened his grip and she cried, air flow to her lungs stopping. He took the rifle from her shoulder and tossed it on the ground. He pulled her away from the wall and shoved her back against it. He pressed his knee between her thighs roughly, and used a hand to search for any more weapons. She grimaced and tensed up. Closing her eyes shut, she gritted her teeth and clung to the sleeve of his jacket.
A soft touch on her nose forced her to open her eyes, and she met with comforting blue orbs. His lips were inches from hers, and she almost forgot about the world outside. Her eyes widened as he dropped her. “Take her to my room. Oh Laura, we are using this building now, so I hope you don’t mind.” He smirked and walked away with a wave of his hand.
----------------
SS soldiers stood outside the door, guarding it from anyone leaving or entering, unless that person was Ludwig. Laura was locked inside this room, unable to leave for any reason. She never thought for once in her life she would be held captive, but there’s always a first for something. She feared for the lives of her people, wishing she could be out there to help them, but she was unable to.
A sharp sound had her freeze in her pacing, as the handle of the door turned. The door opened and Ludwig walked in. He closed it behind him and set his hat down on a table, stepping over to her. Nervous, she quickly moved away from him, but landed on a bed. He stopped, but shook his head and sat next to her. Her brain was going crazy, and she didn’t know what to do. He was acting strange, and if she made the wrong move, it could end badly for her.
“I’m going to keep you here until it’s all over. I just don’t want you to get hurt. So be a good girl, and stay put. Or call off your army, and let us through.”
Laura shook her head sadly, gripping her pants between her fingers. “I can’t do that. You don’t understand why, but just know that I can’t. You will never make it through; we are stronger than you think.”
His nose wrinkled as he glared, a crease forming between his brows. “You truly believe that?”
“Of course, it’s the only thing that gives me hope.” She couldn’t help the smile that appeared as she stared down at her lap.
A scream rose from her throat as her hair was suddenly pulled and she was on her back. Ludwig crawled on top of her, hand pressed against her chest and knees holding her legs still. “How about we pick up where we left off?”
“Ludwig, please don’t.” Laura cried, struggling against him. He cooed softly in her ear, as if it would calm her, but it only brought water to her eyes. Grabbing her hair and pulling her back up into a sitting position, he wrapped her legs around his waist and crushed his mouth hungrily to hers. Crying, she wrapped her arms around his neck and ran her hands into his hair.
She had missed this, she missed him. All thoughts bounced through her head excluding the ones from earlier. She just wanted the moment now and to relish in it. His hands caressed her sides and rubbed his fingers against her spine. Moaning into his mouth, she closed her eyes and pressed her chest against him. He tilted her head and began kissing her neck softly. Taking deep breaths, she began crying again, this time in sorrow and resentment.
“I’m sorry Ludwig.” Laura said in a hushed voice before she pulled his head up and kissed his lips again. His eyes questioned her and reached up to wipe her tears, but she pushed him back so he fell onto the ground. Crawling off, she slammed her foot down on his stomach and raced to the door. Cracking it open, she noticed the two soldiers talking to one another, their backs turned and looked back at Ludwig, who was holding his stomach and groaning on the ground.
Taking a deep breath, she crept out the door and slide away, not worrying about closing it. He wouldn’t be speaking for a while. She’d have to find a way to get back to her military. They must be worried about her; she was gone for quite a long time. Wiping her eyes, she puffed out her chest and grabbed ahold of the side, jumping over and dropping to the ground.
It wasn’t a long drop, as she regained her stance and looked around. “Laura!” She panicked as Ludwig’s enraged voice called, and she took off away from the building. Men shouted at her and shot bullets. “Don’t shoot her idiots!”
Laura stopped and turned. Ludwig had landed on the ground, and was running towards her. She was already out of breath, so she conjured all her anger into one spot, and glared at him. As he got closer, pulled her arm back, balling her hand into a fist and connected it into his jaw. He started backwards, almost shocked as he held his jaw.
Her eyes grew wide and she felt pain in her heart, but she just ignored it. Rushing forward, she turned and elbowed him in the stomach, and kneed his face as he bent over. “I’m sorry Ludwig. I’m sorry.” She cried again, stepping back and looking at him.
Ludwig stood straight, his nose bleeding and anger spread on his features. “Then stop!”
“No!” She screamed, tightening her fists and kicking his knee. He dropped down and growled in pain, to which she drew back her leg and kicked his stomach. He coughed up blood and looked up at her, his eyes filled with something she couldn’t recognize, and she blinked away the water in her eyes.
He stood up and wiped his mouth, sadness in his blue eyes. “Fine, you won, Laura. I’ll leave you alone.” Narrowing his eyes, he turned and waved to the men hiding.
Laura’s stomach flipped and she smiled, letting out the breath she was holding. One last look at Ludwig, she turned and ran towards the building with her soldiers waiting. “We did it! We won!” Cheers and shouts and the same words filled the air and she broke down in laughter and cries. She loved him, but her country was more important, as it would always be. Yet, she couldn’t help the aching and emptiness in her chest, that was burning her in on inside.

Authors note:
This is actually really bad, I'm sorry. I broke it into parts because it would just be way too long if I didn't. Remember also, this is about WWII, so Ludwig isn't going to be the way he is like the anime, this is just kind of how I would see him as. Also, I've never written Belgium before, so sorry if I got her wrong.
