Look to the Cookie no more
oh for people who actually follow me here, I'm done with the #podcast. Numbers got too low. Shark jumped. Never got real traction. And since it never became my career it's become a career killer. #LooktotheCookie is done

Black People Get Therapy
I just finished a therapy session and after spending time with family, I see even more clearly that the Black community's fear of help, stigma about mental health, etc is KILLING us. KILLING. And you're letting it. So I've decided to report the highlights of my sessions everywhere, so maybe it'll encourage you to go and be the best version of yourself. Please share. And if you care to be in my life, get that therapy.
------------------------------------------------
These are my takeaways and not exactly what she said:
First, I think she's white. And like people always say it is a little difficult talking to a white person about Black problems. She's knowledgeable, but she can't experience it and knows that.
I keep trying to make people love me. They won't. People love their passions. Instead of begging you to care about my life, I have to show that I care about the things you care about and build more organically. Side note - I really really love The Strokes, The Dolphins, The Suns, children, music, dancing, film, good cinematography, good burgers, playing SPORTS, mimosas . . . .
A HUGE takeaway. People are starting to understand the universal concept of depression. You do not at all understand the weight of racial oppression, racism, etc. It's not as universal and the weight is just as great if not more of a burden since it's basically unrecognized.
Mother's day is coming up. Don't let the weight of that day bring me down. Toxic is toxic.
What was really good is I thought she was going to make me cry about every time I got hit with a shoe and cursed out or kicked out. She was like I get it, you're a genius, you know everything - we move on now and figure out where do we go from here.
This is through Kaiser Permanente. They often only do an individual session once a month or so. They are really big on group therapy and they have many different focused groups. I'm in a group that should help me with building family beyond my blood relatives.
I still do stuff. Check it out. Share it.
