Mementos
Geshna sighed as she made her way into her room leaning against the door as she closed it behind her. She was tired, another late night walk, she’d almost been tempted to try and track down E’an for company, but instead she’d walked around Lion’s Rest and looked out over the ocean.
She pulled her scarf off, letting her deep red curls full freely again, likewise she undid the ties that held up her dress and stepped out of it, making her way slowly to her work table. She glanced at her reflection in the mirror, her silhouette visible through the thin cream coloured slip she wore. Her hand instinctively brushed along her ribs, under her left breast, tracing the length of the scar there, she curled her top lip in disgust and turned from her reflection. The scar brought memories she’d rather not think about right now, so with a deep sigh she slid into the chair at her desk.
She opened a draw to find some small project to do, pushing materials, fabric and such out of the way. Her hand touched something warm and smooth, her ears wriggled in surprise as she scooped the item up. A small violet crystal wrapped in silver and hung on a leather strip. She recognized it instantly and she let out a long breath, it was a sigh of exhaustion and sadness. She rubbed her thumb over it’s surface, did it still work after all this time?
Her thumb rubbed over a small notch in the back of the pendant and it throbbed to life, she set it on the desk and watched and light sprung from it, illuminating a tingy figure of a draenei woman in violet. Geshna watched the small figure with vague recognition.
“Is it working?” The small woman said before a brief pause. “You’re sure?” The woman laughed softly and rubbed a swollen stomach. “Well alright then. Hello little one...Pretty soon you’ll be joining us here. We’re so excited to meet you.” She chuckled again. “We wanted to keep a record of the days leading up to your birth, so here I am, I don’t really know what I want to say. I hope I can fill this with things for you, one day we’ll be one big happy fam-”
Geshna shut it off, her heart ached, it hurt to watch. It hurt knowing that this, thi blue-ish purple image was all she had of her mother. She couldn’t remember what colour her mother’s eyes were, or was her skin as blue as the light of the crystal? Or was it pale and pink like Geshna’s?
She threw the crystal back into the draw and reached up to wipe tears from her eyes. The fact was all she’d really known was the Exador before she was pulled from the water by a night elf woman. That woman was her mother, or the closest she’d ever had, but mother’s don’t seem to stay around long. She pushed her chair away from the desk and got up, moving to her bed as she crawled into it, pulling a pillow to her chest. She desired sleep so much right now, restful sleep, without the nightmares. Without the what if’s, the memories. She would give anything for a dreamless sleep.

It’s funny how things work, isn’t it? Sometimes they just do, work that is. Of course Geshna didn’t really know or realise that when she woke from her nightmare, her almost white blue skin coated in a thin sheen of sweat. She held her head and let out a long sigh, again with that horrible dream. She kicked her damp sheets from her naked body, being quiet as she se her hooves on the wood of her home, she didn’t want to wake up anyone else tonight. The boy needed his sleep after all with the workload tomorrow. She quietly as she could slipped to the bowl of water she set out every evening, cleaning herself with a rag.
Refreshed she slowly dressed and headed towards the door, another late night walk. Nothing unusual these days. What was unusual was that moment she was crossing a bridge near her house. She wasn’t paying attention really, hadn’t even noticed the human man walking towards her, or the fact he paused in his step. What she was suddenly aware of was a hand on her arm and strong lips against her. It pulled her out of her lingering on the past and brought her to reality, she was dumbfounded as she stared up at the slightly taller man she could only blush and blinks.
He apologised and explained he was just happy to survive his recent ordeal, she couldn’t help but laugh. They got a drink. They hit it off quite well, she didn’t really expect to see him again though. Fast forward a few days and a stroll through Lion’s Rest on her way home, once again she was in her own thoughts when she heard a familiar voice.
It was him again, E’an. They spent so long there talking flirting. She honestly couldn’t help herself. She couldn’t understand what a noble sees in a common gal like her, but still he asked. Dinner.

“M’lday? Are you okay?”
Geshna blinked as she heard the merchant, she was caught in her own little world again, the draenei flicked her tail as she tried to remember what she had been doing. Then she grinned as she looked at the neat package the merchant held out to her. “Sorry I got lost in my thoughts there.” She laughs softly. “Oh this is going to be perfect, thank you....”
“Always a pleasure lady Geshna....Though this is...A bit different from your usual orders, a special occasion?” The night elf seamstress tilted her head at the other woman.
“Oh, you know I’m no lady, I’m as common as you and all the other merchants.” Geshna chuckled but nodded. “I suppose it is, and I hope to knock ‘im dead in this.” She paused. “Well not quite.” She laughs as she handed over a pouch of gold. “Thank you as always.” She bowed as she headed out the door and home with her prize.

It seems I had to buy a new journal today, I suspect Nibbler ate my last, but I haven’t found the remains yet. I thought today would be somewhat uneventful, after all all I had to do was make sure goods were priced properly, browsing the goods at the market place. Oh you know, the usual.
I did find some new jewelry at the market, what can I say? You know I have a soft spot for the shiny things, I of course bought a fine bottle of cider. Which I am drinking currently, sweet and fruity. It’s the little things that pleases this fine lady.
It was on my way back home I found my usual routine interrupted. I was passing the gardens in Stormwind, I enjoy walking through them on the way home. There sat on a ledge overlooking the gardens was another enjoying the garden. I was a little curious because as busy as the city is I don’t really run into many people here. I struck up a conversation and we sat and chatted for a while.
He seems to work in Dalaran. I don’t know how people can stand it there. I felt a small shiver run up my spine, I always fear it’ll just drop out of the sky, or I’d clumsily fall off the edge. Probably why I haven’t visited yet. He introduced himself as Arrel, it was a welcome change to the routine. He invited me to the floating city for a visit someday soon, I think I shall swallow my fear and try visiting, I’m sure it’s quite beautiful.
However for now I shall retire, the cider has made my eyelids heavy. I may have to go shopping, one can’t visit such a beautiful city without an outfit to match.
