DAY 5 - 3/12/22
Well, I took another break. I did get a bit busy with school, but I also felt a bit discouraged with how to improve my gesture drawing technique. But taking another look at Proko's gesture drawing vid has helped me get back on track! I see now that I have been focusing too much on contour and detail--how the body looks--rather than how it FEELS.
I also took a few notes on the vid, not only to cement the info in my mind but to have it as a handy ref for when I feel like I’m slipping back into contour mode
I followed the adage of using CSI (drawing with only C and S curves and straight lines). I also tried to avoid chicken scratching, though that’s a bit of a harder habit to break! Also tried to look at the reference more VS my paper (eyes should be 80% on ref and 20% on paper!) but that has also been a bit hard. But the more I do it, the better I’ll get! I think I already see a little improvement!
With my hands, IDK if I’m doing hand gesture studies “right” or not, but I’ve been trying to apply what I’ve learned here too.
Now that I’ve practiced this a bit, I think I’ll take a look at Proko’s next vid on the topic. I’m excited—he’ll go into more depth on his strategy to gesture drawing! Yay!
