i feel so shitty right now. my friend got recently scammed and lost around 5000 pesos (roughly $100). she’s still a student and she earned that money thru her part time job. she was supposed to buy a new phone, since what she’s using right now is barely working anymore, but turns out there was some hidden fees (3500 pesos - approx. $70) after she already paid the 5k, which obviously she can’t afford that anymore. the hidden fees was needed for the phone to be “shipped” as the scammer said and it was some kind of insurance so the item won’t be delayed and that money will be given back after she received the package. she explained that she can’t afford it and wanted a refund instead which the seller responded that they are unable to refund it right now and she should just borrow the money for the added fees (like wtf right?) there are a lot of other details of their transaction but it just ended for now that my friend realized she got scammed and the seller still insist that she should pay the additional fees (we figured it was a scam already and she didn’t confront them yet about it so yeah he’s still insisting about the fees). it’s weird not to tell the costumer you have other fees to pay besides the price of the product, right? and also the money was easily refundable since she used a cash app (a local cash app here in my country) for the payment so there’s nothing really delaying the refund
