This is somewhat inspired by "Uprooted, Yet We Grow Toward The Same Sun" on Ao3, but an interesting fic idea would be: when Maomao was kidnapped from the pleasure district instead of being purchased by the rear palace she got purchased by Lakan. Like Lahan or whoever deals with the staff at the la estate was in contact with a servant broker, and the person would tell em that they have a girl named Maomao, and the la clan person is like 'ISN'T THAT LAKAN'S DAUGHTER????'. Anyway, Lakan purchases Maomao to get her out of the hands of the seller and murders them or smth. So Maomao is bound by a contract to stay at the La estate and she is trying to avoid being spoiled by him and get out the contract being a regular servant. While Lakan is just like, 'ah, my cute little baby, the sweetest of all children in heaven and earth, finally in my care. Here's a greenhouse and a pharmacy, experiment and make all the medicine you want, will that get you to like or tolerate me?'.
