Good morning everyone! Happy Friday! ◽Its the first day of April and we're are 9 days away from National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day which is an annual observance that takes place on April 10 to educate the public about the impact of HIV and AIDS on young people. ◽As a young black female, I was once uncomfortable and afraid to talk about sexual health and wellness. This 'taboo' subject in most communities and cultures is often stigmatized and overlooked in school curriculum's. But sexual health is more than learning about the birds and the bees, it also learning how to protect yourself from sexually transmitted infections (STI's) and diseases (STDs). HIV/AIDS continues to effect our communities worldwide. While great progress has been made in preventing and treating HIV, there is still much to do. ◽The lack of education, resources, health disparities and stigmatization across cultures is sadly continuing to kill our people (In the U.S. 6,955 people died from HIV and AIDS in 2013) and there are thousands of people who still do not know their status., especially the youth. Youth of Color &Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men continue to be the most at risk. By race, Blacks/African Americans face the most severe burden of HIV. ◽Our HEALTH MATTERS and in order to thrive in this enormous world, we must let go of the fear of having these extremely important conversations and Get educated, Get tested, Get involved. ◽YOU can start by getting tested! ◽ Learn more about how you can help put an end in the fight against HIV/AIDS at http://www.cdc.gov/features/youth-hiv-aids/. ◽Please share the message & encourage your fellow peers to get tested.
