so i went to my first LGBT film festival and attended to Gethin Roberts and Nicola Field's panel tonight! as i knew nobody i was a bit scared and asked nothing, but something possessed me and after the panel i said hello to them, we chatted a bit and long story short I WENT TO DINNER WITH GETHIN AND NICOLA AND WE EVEN TOOK SELFIES

at some point i literally asked everything i wanted to know, like his work at the bookshop, Jonathan in real life, the Welsh community, Russell Brand, his favourite food, and Nicola was so lovely, i could talk to her for years and never get bored at all <3 she was really interested in my thesis and talking to her about that particular topic was brilliant too

i hope our roads will cross again because they are lovely people and so down to earth heroes. they are one of the reasons i am an activist here and now, trying to make the world into a better place in however small ways i can. i hope someday i can make them proud.

and i am so happy to meet all the incredible people of the LGBT family, and will always be thankful for how friendly and welcoming they've been to me. what a wonderful day it's been, still not sure if that was a dream or not..

i remember watching pride for the first time in the cinema and mentally preparing myself to see someone die of AIDS, somebody get viciously beaten up, i was dreading seeing the inevitable violence, i was terrified there'd be no happy ending. stupid small things like jeff asking how to cover up love bites had me thinking oh god but what if it's a lesion associated with AIDS, when they started collecting money i was on edge every time because i thought they were about to get the shit beaten out of them, same when they went to wales, and when it looked like gethin was about to get attacked i was so so so scared they were going to show it in full and oh god what if he dies, and oh god what about mark dying?

films about queer people have made me expect violence, death, tragedy and no happy endings. how fucked up is that? how fucked up is the fact that i can't enjoy watching queer films for the first time because i expect bad shit happening in every scene? how fucked up is it that this is the norm to me?
