#251 #GetOnStage I went to an open mic. It wasn't the first one I had ever been to. I had been to a couple when I spent a few months in Tampa. Those were a mix of musicians and comedians. However, this was the first one specifically dedicated to poetry. There was a unique mix of people there, but the ones that presented had at least one thing in common. They had a message they wanted the world to hear, or at least, the 30 or so people in the room. They came prepared with their notebooks and papers full of their material. Ready to shine or just share their thoughts and feelings about any number of things. Some were esoteric and not completely comprehensible by the untrained ear (i.e. me). Others were practical, about love and understanding. The important thing is they got on stage. It could have been to share with others or it could have been just for themselves. Whatever the reason, they did it. Which is why you should do it, too. You may be an old hand at this or deathly afraid. The point is to share, for yourself or for others. It needn't be an open mic. It could be at work in front of coworkers or at home in front of family. The important matter is to do it. People may or may not agree with you, but that's ok. Next time I'll participate. 20180628
