The last place you’d ever thought you’d be was attending a Tokyo Jujutsu High staff party, especially as the newest member of said staff. And if the earful you received from Utahime was any indication, it was also the last place anyone else believed you’d be. To be fair, if Principal Yaga hadn’t sought you out personally, you never would’ve applied for the open teaching position.
You were a star student at Kyoto, pushing yourself everyday because you were a recruit. Nobody in your family had ever been a sorcerer, so you tried your hardest to excel in everything as you continued through the years. You ended up earning the favor of your first year teacher Utahime who was always someone you found yourself gravitating towards as a mentor. Even Principal Gakuganji spoke highly of you, making your entrance into the life of a sorcerer as easy as possible.
Once you graduated you were more than happy to take on as many missions as you could before you found yourself leading young sorcerers as a mentor. Despite the six year age difference and the fact that for a brief time she was your teacher and mentor, Utahime became your closest friend.
You had always heard how the Tokyo school was off the walls. The students were barely scraping by academically, the teachers were subpar except for Kusakabe, and the lack of acknowledgement for Jujutsu society laws was astounding.
How could the students know any better though, with Satoru Gojo teaching the first years. First years! It was abhorrent to think their young minds were getting poisoned so early on by the likes of Gojo. Especially since they allowed the reformed Suguru Geto into the halls again, letting him lead and teach the new generation of sorcerers alongside Gojo.
This was your justification to Utahime when you told her you accepted the interview request from Principal Yaga for the vacant first year teaching position. You assured her you would do everything you could to help these students. Since they finally had the sense to make Gojo teach second years, you’d have ample opportunity to step in before the Tokyo school ever sunk its claws in too deep.
When Principal Yaga extended the offer, you happily accepted. Despite the worries of Utahime and the clear apprehensive tone Principal Gakuganji adopted when you told him you’d no longer be a teaching aid at Kyoto, you were truly happy. The Kyoto school spent so much time complaining about the ways of the Tokyo school, but nobody really did anything to make a change.
If we never learned from one another, how can we become sorcerers who trust and rely on each other? How could we expect growth in the students, if the adults couldn’t look past trivial matters?
So when Principal Yaga reached out to invite you to the end of summer staff party, you said you would gladly be there. Even if your stomach churned as the day crept closer, you forced yourself not to cancel. Even if your nerves were cloying as you prepared the dessert dish you said you’d bring, you told yourself it was nothing more than adults meeting for the first time.
You caved the morning of the party and called Utahime, begging her to come with you. Which earned you a scoff before she laughed in your face, told you to deal with the consequences of your actions and hung up. Times like this reminded you of your days as her mentee, she was loving and caring, but still held firmly in her belief that lessons need to be learned firsthand.
You still texted her you would be there and her long time friend Shoko, which earned you a maybe status on whether or not she’d be there. Knowing her it was most likely a no, especially since it was a given Gojo and Geto would be there.
Which is how you found yourself carrying your dessert tray, wearing a pair of jean shorts over your one piece swimsuit towards the doors leading to the staff pool, alone. Completely alone while you prepared yourself to meet many new people for the first time, some of them revered in jujutsu society.
Who were you compared to these people? You were the strongest grade one sorcerer, taking the title from Kusakabe when you developed your domain, possibly on the road to special grade if any of the special grades at the Tokyo school recommended you. You had a strong technique and an even stronger grasp of it. You had taken on missions solo, led a team of sorcerers, or been the one they called when they needed backup. You repeated your accomplishments over and over as you walked through the doors and into your new reality for the next year.
What you didn’t expect to see was the albino sorcerer hovering above the pool as the worst cursed user in history slung cursed spirits at his infinity. Both of them were taunting and jeering each other, laughing their heads off as they clearly tried their hardest to land a hit on each other.
It was then you noticed that the pool was huge, probably 25 meters across, with a diving board on the left side and rock formation with a waterfall in the center of the side opposite of you. There was a large covered bar off to the right of the pool, with a grilling station to the left of the bar. Behind the waterfall there were large seating areas with their own individual canopies. On the left side of the pool there was a line of loungers and umbrellas. Where you just walked in, the floor slowly started sloping into the pool, like a small beach.
When the doors closed behind you, every single person in attendance looked at you. Gojo had his hand frozen in midair, the remnants of blue disappearing on his finger tips as he adopted a wide smirk, letting himself fall into the pool on top of Geto. The two crashed into the water, bursting above the surface laughing as they pushed and shoved each other towards the steps leading out.
Shoko appeared in front of you, an unlit cigarette dangling from her lips as she took the dish out of your hands, “Come on, let’s get you a drink.”
You laughed lightly, following behind her as she led you towards the bar. She dropped your dish onto one of the tables before quickly pouring you a drink, with way too much alcohol, you noted.
“Thank you, I’m so glad you’re here,” you smiled at her, taking the drink from her outstretched hand, coughing as you took the first sip.
“I won’t say no to free alcohol, plus those idiots are bound to get hurt and I’ll get called here anyway,” she shrugged, lighting the cigarette as you looked out towards everyone.
Which earned you an eyeful of Satoru Gojo, who had appeared behind you with Suguru Geto, “Are you the new teacher?”
“Obviously,” Shoko chimed with a roll of her eyes that was more endearing than anything, the cigarette dangling from her fingers. “Introduce yourself, or have you forgotten your manners?”
“Satoru Gojo, or you can call me Great Teacher Gojo, Good Looking Guy-,” he was abruptly cut off by Geto slapping a hand over his mouth.
“I would say he’s not always like that, but that would be a lie,” Geto offered you a sheepish smile, his purple eyes alight with interest. The rumors were true, you thought, he was gorgeous. “I’m Suguru Geto, it’s nice to meet you.”
You shook his hand, offering him a weak smile and your name, hoping your words didn’t come out too fake, “It’s great to be here, I’m excited to get to know everyone.”
“That includes me right?” Gojo’s words were muffled behind Geto’s hand that was still firmly clamped over his mouth.
“Yes,” which earned you wide eyes and what you guessed was a smile, “until it doesn’t.”
Gojo shoved Geto’s hand away, a pout taking over his beautiful features, “Well you have to tell me how to avoid that.”
“Do I?” You tapped your mouth, “Wouldn’t that be like cheating?”
“No way!” Gojo assured, shaking his head, white locks slinging water around.
“I guess I could tell everyone, then it wouldn’t be cheating. But where’s the fun in that?” You shrugged which earned another dramatic pout from Gojo. “It was nice to meet you both, I should go meet everyone else though.”
Shoko stayed with the two men, the three of them falling into easy chatter with each other as you walked towards Principal Yaga, who was grilling by himself.
“Principal Yaga,” you called out, waving at him. “It’s great to see you again!”
“I’m glad you could make it, we’re excited to have you on our team,” he nodded at you, continuing to work the meat grilling.
“I’m looking forward to the upcoming school year, I heard the second years were incredibly talented last year. I know we can foster another year of students like that,” you assured him.
“The past few years of Tokyo students have been exceptional, I’m sure this year will be no different with you leading our first years,” he smiled.
“Thank you, Principal. I’ve got a few more people to meet if you’ll excuse me, I look forward to starting school Monday,” you offered him a genuine smile before turning back towards the pool.
As you were walking the steps you saw Gojo and Geto tumbling into the deep end, Geto wrapping his arms around Gojo as he fell backwards into the water. As you sipped your drink, part of you wished you could be so carefree, not worried about the impressions you made on everyone today. Even then, you silently wondered if that was any way for a teacher to be acting in the first place. Sure, everyone here was an adult, but it was important to act like one at all times right?
Your feet had carried you over to the line of chairs under umbrellas, right next to a blond man reading a book. He looked up at you, his hazel eyes startling you as you realized he too, was incredibly handsome. Was that a requirement to be associated with the Tokyo school?
“Oh! I’m sorry,” your laugh was filled with embarrassment, “I didn’t mean to sneak up on you, I was lost in thought.”
“It’s no problem at all, I’m Kento Nanami,” he set his book down, standing before extending his palm towards you.
“It’s nice to meet you,” you smiled and offered him your name.
“You’re from the Kyoto school, right?” He asked.
“Yes! I used to aid Utahime and I graduated from there,” you closed your arms around your waist, as the hard truth hit you that these people could have feelings similar to yours, but towards the Kyoto school.
“We’ve all heard great things about you,” his words came as a shock to you. A horrifying question surfacing in your mind, was the prejudice one sided? He continued speaking, none the wiser to your inner conflict. “It’s unfortunate none of us have ever had a mission together, but that’s a given being a first grade,” his smile was sweet, calming some of your nerves.
“I would have loved to meet you all,” you echoed. “From my few times being around Shoko, I think we’ll all get along great,” you hoped that including everyone didn't sound too forced. It was then you noticed you could feel the warmth from the few sips of your drinks flooding your chest, that was enough of that for a bit.
“Hey! New character unlocked,” a voice came from behind you. You turned to see someone about your age, if not a little younger.
“Ino, you shouldn’t call people characters,” Nanami corrected gently, earning a soft flush dancing across the younger man's features.
“Sorry!” He rubbed the back of his neck, sticking a hand out sharply towards you. “I’m Takuma Ino,” he smiled, his cheeks still pink.
You gave him your name, shaking his hand, “Are you a teacher?”
“Me? No way! And neither is Nanami for the record, but we always get invited because Nanami was in school with Shoko, Gojo, and Geto,” his honesty was endearing as he looked between you and Nanami.
“That sounds interesting,” you looked at Nanami, who was currently adjusting his glasses to avoid your gaze, with raised brows.
“Is that Kusakabe?” Nanami’s ears had an unmistakable tinge of pink to them as he waved over the man named Kusakabe. “This is your new colleague, Kusakabe.”
You extended your hands to the man, who you dethroned as the strongest first grade, smiling to hide your nerves, “I’ve heard great things, you’re teaching the third years now?”
“I am, I’m interested to see how having someone competent in charge of the first years will play out,” he shook your hand, smiling around the lollipop in his mouth.
“I’m sure there will be an adjustment period, but I think the students will be stellar again,” you smiled softly, noticing the dusting of grey around his temples. He was truly handsome and seemed like a great guy, you could easily see yourself going to him for teaching advice.
“I would hope so from the strongest grade one sorcerer,” his eyes were alight with a dare, he was clearly testing you to see how you would respond.
“While I’m a firm believer in strength doesn’t necessarily mean someone is an ideal teacher, I believe in my own abilities so I look forward to teaching the first years,” you shrugged. “If anything natural talent is what we should be more concerned with when it comes to teaching abilities.”
“I heard that!” Gojo shouted before he was muffled by one of Geto’s water curses dragging him under.
Kusakabe let out a soft chuckle, “I like you already.”
You excused yourself, letting the three men settle into their group as you walked towards Shoko. Just as you were nearing here the doors opened roughly, slamming into the wall as three men walked in. Two of them were easily the largest men you’d ever seen, the one with black hair was ripped, but the one with pink hair was on another level.
You froze, turning to offer a weak wave, the pink haired one raised an eyebrow before walking past you. In the few seconds before he disappeared you could see all the tattoos covering him, somehow taking note of a new one every time your eyes moved.
The huge one with black hair smiled at you, the scar on the right side of his face lifting with it, his green eyes dancing with mischief. He was clearly bad news.
“Aren’t you something? I’m Toji,” he held out one of his massive hands, your previous thought confirmed as he blatantly flirted with you.
You offered him your name as you shook his hand, “What do you teach?”
“I train the students athletically. I’m in charge of combat drills and individual endurance training,” he not so subtly flexed his muscles.
“Long winded way to say PE,” you laughed lightly, letting it turn more full bodied at the taken back look on his face.
The man who was quiet behind him finally stepped up, a delighted smile crinkling the tattoo across his nose, as he clapped Toji’s shoulder, “Take a lap, Fushiguro. I’m Choso.”
You laughed lightly as Choso not so subtly shoved Toji into walking. You gave him your name, extending your hand “It’s nice to meet you.”
“You’re the new first year teacher!” He started walking, his hand hovering just above your back before you followed along. “My younger brother is a second year, I’m sure you’ll see him often, his name is Yuji. I help Toji and Sukuna,” he pointed at the pink haired man currently downing the contents of his drink, “do, PE, as you called it.”
“I only said that to get under his skin,” you were waving your hands, halting the movement when you heard his light laugh. His smile was bright and you realized how handsome he was.
“It definitely worked,” he laughed again when he looked at the man sitting on the edge of the pool, staring into the water. “We needed someone like you here! All of us could benefit from getting humbled every now and then.”
“That’s good to know, I guess,” your mind started to wander. Did you take it too far with the three of them? They each seem formidable in their own ways, being on one of their bad sides is not the way to start. What happened to being calm, cool, and collected?
“This is my rude uncle, Sukuna,” Choso’s voice pulled you out of your mind as you stopped in front of the man in question. You wondered how many more times you’d zone out around these people as Choso gestured towards the huge man with pink hair and the most handsomely intimidating face.
“Uncle?” Was all you managed to speak as Sukuna’s crimson eyes locked onto you, studying your face while his remained expressionless.
“Uncle,” Sukuna’s deep voice confirmed, clearly unimpressed by his nephew bringing you over.
“It’s a little complicated,” Choso scratched his head, his face taking on a slight cringe. “My brother Yuji is only my half brother. We have the same mom, but Sukuna is Yuji’s dad’s brother, so I guess he’s not really my uncle.”
“If you see him as that, who’s to say he isn’t your uncle?” You asked, giving Choso’s arm a quick pat.
All Sukuna offered his nephew was a quick flick between the brows, “I’m your uncle.”
You laughed lightly at the startled sound Choso made, watching as he tried, and failed to land a hit on his uncle.
“Hey, why are you laughing at what Choso says?” Gojo once again appeared out of nowhere, walking towards the bar and pouring a glass of pineapple juice, no liquor you noted.
“Is laughing illegal?” You crossed your arms, raising a brow at him.
“Yes if it’s not something I said,” he winked at you over the rim of his sunglasses.
“Go figure,” you huffed.
“Satoru,” Geto’s melodic voice sounded from beside you. “It’s not nice to flirt with everyone, then be upset when it doesn’t go your way.”
Gojo gasped dramatically, “I thought you were my best friend, my one and only. Here you are throwing me to the wolves!”
“Can it Gojo,” Sukuna said gruffly, taking a large gulp of his cup.
“Not you too, Kuna,” Gojo clutched his chest. “I thought we were past our differences!”
“Call me Kuna again, see how it works out for you,” Sukuna pointed a single finger at Gojo, but it was filled with enough threat to have you looking quickly between them.
“Don’t worry, they’re always like this,” Geto gave you another one of his beautiful smiles, despite your better judgment you chose to believe him.
“Doesn’t mean they won’t fight,” Choso pointed out with a shrug, snagging a soda from one of the ice chests.
“Who’s fighting without me?” Toji’s voice came from right behind you, causing you to quickly look back at- nothing? When you turned your head back to everyone, there he was next to Sukuna. You’d heard plenty about the skills and abilities Toji possessed to due his heavenly restriction, but to witness it in person was something entirely different. “Looking for someone, ma?” He asked with a shit eating grin.
“I’m not healing anyone who gets hurt unless they’re innocent,” Shoko called out from the edge of the pool, her feet dangling in the water. She had the right idea, claiming the pool while the two people who were making it unusable were distracted.
“Agreed,” you chimed in with a quick flash of a smile before darting towards her. You kicked your shorts off, sitting down beside her and letting your feet fall in.
“How’s it going so far?” Her feet were softly kicking back and forth as she watched the group of men talk animatedly.
“Better than I thought,” you admitted. “I’m surprised by the amount of level headed people here, but it’s like the others cancel it out.”
You watched as Gojo started backing away from the bar area, hands raised in a placating gesture as Sukuna started advancing on him. Geto and Toji were watching with a wild gleam in their eye, pointing between the two as they continued to talk. Choso just shook his head before heading towards Nanami and Ino.
“It only seems like that because people spend more time talking about them,” she had a small smile dancing around her lips as she watched the two men start throwing punches. “Nobody wants to hear about a level headed conversation, they want to hear about Sukuna and Gojo fighting at the staff party.”
“True,” you laughed lightly. “Is this everyone?”
“He might come, but if he doesn’t, we have an ex-lawyer who works here, Higuruma. His job is to deal with any damage we do to the city or any harm we cause citizens,” she pushed herself over the edge, going beneath the water before coming up.
You followed after her, letting the water cool your warm skin. When you came up you followed her to the shallow end, sitting in waist deep water as the guys finally started coming back towards the pool.
Gojo fingers were the only warning anyone got before he used blue to throw Sukuna and Geto into the water. Sukuna came up with a frown overtaking his entire face, but Geto came up with a laugh before letting loose an octopus-man shaped looking curse.
You realized Toji was meant to be caught in blue as he settled right next to you, a smug look on his face as he watched Gojo tackle the octopus into the water.
“Couldn’t let him show you up?” You asked before thinking better of it.
“Of course not,” he scoffed. “Why would anyone let the Gojo brat best them?”
“Is it pick on Gojo day? Because I definitely missed the memo,” Gojo appeared beside Shoko, leaning over her as he looked between you and Toji.
“Do people not act like this everyday?” You asked, your voice dangerously close to teasing. What was getting into you?
Gojo hummed, before pouting his pretty pink lips, “I guess they do.”
You gave him a sarcastic pout in return, earning you a bright grin as you furrowed your brows, “You’re really something.”
“Thanks!” His face was bright with happiness.
“Wasn’t a compliment,” Sukuna noted as he settled beside your feet. His large body was still mostly out of the water, despite the fact his position was lower.
“It could’ve been,” Gojo argued, clearly for the sake of arguing. The animosity between Sukuna and Gojo was well known, but seeing it in person, it seemed more like a bit and less like they actually disliked each other.
“No it couldn’t have,” Shoko laughed to Gojo’s dismay.
He knocked his shoulder against hers, letting his head fall on her shoulder, “I thought we were friends. Why is everyone forsaking me?”
She sighed heavily, “Someone calling out your bullshit doesn’t mean the friendship is over, you know?”
“Bullshit?” His voice was distraught as he scooted away from her, like she burned him.
He really was like everyone said, the most dramatic and unserious person alive.
“Quit whining,” Sukuna griped. “You’re giving me a headache.”
“Whatever, geezer,” Gojo quipped.
Sukuna launched himself out of the water and at Gojo. He was almost as fast as Toji, which made you wonder if he let Gojo throw him in the pool. The two were tumbling through the water as Geto appeared, walking the edge of the pool with Choso.
When Geto got out of the water and went to Choso, you had no idea. You chalked it up to the people around you being incredibly consuming. Each of them had a large presence that you couldn’t help but study as you tried to understand them better.
When Yaga finally called everyone to eat, they all gathered under the large canopies behind the waterfall. They adjusted the tables and chairs to all be near each other, letting everyone mingle as they ate.
The thought came out of nowhere, but it was prevalent all the same. Maybe Tokyo Jujutsu High wasn’t as bad as you originally thought.
