Road trip! We spent last night sleeping in the car with both dogs, at a rest stop in South Carolina. Our accommodations (the back of the van) were comfortable, albeit a bit hot and steamy: dogs panting all night, not sleeping. It’s still dark out, and we’re on the road again, headed north. My observations: there seems to be a steady flow of traffic on the road, at this pre-dawn hour. It’s not just the usual long-haul truckers on the road, but also many campers and unusually, many, many cars. Flashing highway signs eerily display a message of our changed times: “Stay home. Save lives. #Covid_19”. Despite this, people are on the move. Rest stops are packed with vehicles. Is this part of our new reality? Are people scrambling to get to where they need to be? More later.
