Stanley Pines: The Loyal Dog
I love how tragic the whole 'loyal dog' comparison is for Stanley Pines. I don't think it's exactly coordinated across the fandom, but it seems like there's a lot of convergence between content creators and comparing Stan to a loyal dog (and sometimes, quite literally turning him into a dog or wolf).
Heck, I've used it too for Separate Worlds for the extra level of tragedy.
It's just knowing that dogs are called 'man's best friend' and have been our constant companions since ancient times. They love helping us with our physical labor, making us laugh with silly antics, and comfort us when we're sad.
Just like Stanley was always Ford's best friend as a child. He defended Ford from bullies, made him laugh, and comforted him when his insecurities around his hands came up.
He was always there by Ford's side, a stupid, silly, yet very loyal companion...up until he wasn't.
And even in the midst of paranoia, Ford calls out to Stanley for help. Like he's calling for a wayward dog.
And Stanley comes. Like the stupid, loyal dog he is.
Then Ford says 'Go hide this book', like he's commanding a dog.
In one universe, Stan refuses. And like the dog who forever waited at a train station for a master who would never come home, he stays in Gravity Falls and waits for Ford.
In another, Stan obeyed Ford's command.
And in turn, he ended up like Old Yeller.
