The Untamed will be leaving Netflix on October 25th, and apparently leaving Viki as well. Fear not, though, because it is still available to watch for free on YouTube, and it's still on Prime.
See this post for viewing options for GG and DD's projects.
Edit: A lot of people seem really pissed off by this. Just a reminder you can contact Netflix and complain. Not necessarily going to have any impact, but worth a try.
UPDATE: The end date has been removed from the listing on Netflix. They must have renewed the license. Maybe all of the 'farewell' views made them realize how popular the show is. 🥳

Synopsis
The protagonist of Small Town Remedy is a typical small-town exam-taker, born into a northeastern migrant family whose generations have never left their modest hometown. From childhood, Dr. Liu’s education was simple: study, work hard, and escape this declining industrial town. For people like him, life seemed to follow a predictable pattern: rely on intellect and academic achievement to find a stable job in a big city, then build a life with someone who has struggled along a similar path.
Stories like this are common. They form the quiet, unremarkable life journeys of millions of small-town exam-takers. Yet life rarely follows the plan. When Dr. Liu’s carefully constructed future suddenly collapses, he is forced to return home and take each uncertain step as it comes. What he cannot plan or control instead releases the wild ambition once buried deep within a top medical Ph.D. trained at a prestigious university.
Now working as a contract emergency doctor in a small-town hospital, Dr. Liu must face the gap between his ideals and his reality. His story unfolds through the fall and rebuilding of career and self-worth, the loss and reconstruction of economic stability, the collapse of family expectations, and the rediscovery of love.
In Small Town Remedy, every patient and family Xiao Liu encounters through the episodes brings a distinct story, filled with both joy and sorrow. These stories reflect his own experiences of loss, value, and emotion, forming a pattern of collapse and renewal. Each episode ultimately connects back to the protagonist’s worldview, his struggles, and the reconstruction of his beliefs and values.
Themes
The fall and rebuilding of career and personal worth
The loss and reconstruction of financial stability
The collapse of family expectations and rediscovery of identity
The madness and renewal of love
The tension between ambition and reality in modern life
The quiet resilience and humanity of ordinary people
Sometimes, what society calls a step backward may become the best optimization of one’s life. Through its portrayal of ordinary people and their perseverance, Small Town Remedy reveals two essential foundations of realism: genuine conflict and deep humanity.
Hi rbs, hope you’re having a nice holiday season 🎄Do you know if there’s any update on Yibo’s next movie, the one directed by Cheng’er? Also, sorry if this question has already come up, but in the future, what kind of roles or projects would you really like to see him take on? And what about gg? :)
Hi Mimihina! I have had a nice holiday season, thanks! I hope have been too. ☺️
There is no update on Mermaid/Intercross, and there hasn't been since the announcement that filming was complete. That announcement came in July of last year.
That shouldn't be surprising at all. That project has been incredibly secretive, and has had absolutely no leaks whatsoever, which is exceptionally rare. Therefore the only things we're likely to hear are official announcements, or information that is publicly available or that the production has no control over (such as when it obtains a license to air).
When it will be ready for viewing is anyone's guess. The best comparison we have is Hidden Blade, which completed filming in the end of 2021 and was released in January of 2023. Basically just over a year later. It's already been longer than that since Mermaid/Intercross wrapped, so... not that useful.
It did appear on lists of 'most anticipated films of 2025', but we're in the last week of 2025 and there's still no movement on it. We'll just have to be patient and hope it comes out soon. I suspect we'll get it sometime next year, but I don't have any evidence beyond my own expectations.
Re: GG and DD and what types of projects I'd like to see them in - I have been asked similar questions in the past. For example, I was asked about what I'd like to see them appear together in, and who I'd like to see them work with, which has led to some of the info your question is asking, but it's been a while.
For GG, I want to see him play a villain because he's always wanted that, and it would be great to see that dream come true for him.
However, it's a bit unlikely we'd get the kind of antihero/villain role that would be fully satisfying due to Chinese censorship regulations. Criminals/villains must always be depicted as undesirable characters who 'lose' in the end, so those kinds of stories (which tend to be ubiquitous in the West) don't really get told there.
Legend of Zanghai was a bit like that, in that it was a revenge role where he was involved in a lot of scheming and questionable activity, but he was also a very righteous person trying to correct past wrongs and set things on a righteous path. He wasn't a mob figure or a con artist or mastermind pulling criminal heists, which are the kinds of roles I think he'd be great in and I'd love to see.
If you look at the smirk he gives at the end of this GQ video, you can see his potential for a role like that.
I would also like to see him in an unscripted way, where we get more up close and personal with him as he takes on challenges. Sort of like his own version of Exploring the Unknown. Whatever that would be for him. What kinds of challenges interest him? What kinds of documentary projects would he be interested in doing, where we might get a bigger glimpse of the real GG?
The closest we've had of that from him (aside from XFIRE and Our Song, of course) is the 'making of' video he did for WM. But yeah, I'd love to see more of that kind of thing from him.
For DD, we've been exceptionally fortunate. The sorts of things I most love seeing him in, we've had so much of it (not that I don't want more!). For years we had DDU, we had Street Dance of China, we had the pangolin documentary, we've had Exploring the Unknown, we have his racing. These are the kinds of things I most enjoy. Just seeing DD being DD.
I am also DYING, like, completely losing my MIND waiting for Mermaid. I really can't wait to see it.
I think more than anything I would love to see more dance from him, but I respect that's not where he's at right now.
In terms of new acting roles, I would most love to see him play a modern role that has a lot of emotional complexity. I don't have much of a preference of where that goes. But in a perfect world, I wish we could see him play an emotionally complex, multi-dimensional queer character, where queerness isn't the central focus of the project, and where he doesn't meet a 'kill your gays' tragic end.
This because, I think he'd really come alive in a role like that.
Regardless of what they end up doing, I look forward to seeing all of their work. I hope you all do too! You can find some of those projects and links/info for viewing here.
It is rumored that he is currently in pre-production for a Daylight Entertainment produced republican-era spy drama called 谍报上不封顶 or, "The Spy With Limitless Intelligence," to be filmed in Shanghai.
It is based on a web novel by Sang Zhizhi. From a Douban summary of the novel:
Ren Shaobai, an underground member of the Communist Party of China, was officially used as a pawn and planted in the Kuomintang by Huaye. His mission was to use the investigation of a military pay embezzlement case as a starting point to complete the promotion task and infiltrate the high-level Ministry of National Defense to obtain intelligence.
Just as he started his promotion plan, he found that his colleagues around him died in accidents one after another, and he had become prey under the crosshairs.
Lan Youyin - a widow of the underground party who has a talent for code-breaking - does not care whether the means are fair and just. She walks on the revenge path she has planned, but her activities overlap with Ren Shaobai's line of activities and they become a stumbling block on each other's road.
At the same time the Huaihai Campaign was about to start, and the role of spies was to build dominoes behind enemy lines to knock down the front line.
The novel is carefully conceived and has multiple narratives. The storylines seem to be parallel but actually influence each other. One move affects the whole body, and suspense is thrown out one after another, drawing a heart-wrenching picture of the spy war in the Republic of China.
The complex situation of the characters and the real evolution of their emotions and thoughts are refreshing and have won the favor of the film and television parties.
The production has apparently been focused on script reads and costume fittings, and filming is expected to be underway by the 20th. It's believed there will be 40 episodes.
Not much is being said about the cast and crew right now, but the producer is believed to be Hou Hong Liang, who was involved with GG's latest movie De Xian Jin Zhi, along with many well-loved series including Nirvana in Fire.
Remember, melons are to be enjoyed but never believed.

Hi botheredbynothing,
You're very welcome!
GG's toothpaste brand smile is just as unsettling 😅:
As new international fans who want to support ggdd, will watching their old shows and movies on authorized platforms be helpful to them?
Thanks.
Hi storyteller1001, I'm doing OK, thanks! Hope you're well too. 😊
Yes, watching their shows and movies on authorized platforms absolutely will help them and help their careers.
We don't know what the specifics of their contracts are, or how much they would directly benefit financially, however, anything that demonstrates their ability to draw audiences or that brings revenue to the platform is a sign to potential investors, platforms, producers, etc. that GG and DD are a good choice for participation in their projects.
It also shows brands, especially international brands or Asian brands that want to break into broader international markets, that GG and DD have the kind of widespread popularity that will make them worth working with.
And at the very least, it will show those platforms that there is an audience for GG and DD's projects, and ensure they continue to pursue licensing to air those projects.
I encourage everyone to watch their projects. Most of them are quite good, and all of them are interesting to see just for the sake of following their careers. Even the ones I didn't like, I found it enjoyable to watch their performances.
You can find a (non-comprehensive) list of their projects here, with links to view them on various platforms (I don't list all platforms, just the ones I found easiest for international viewers to access).
Don't forget to search for their projects on your favorite streaming service. Chances are good that it carries at least some of their more popular works.
As you likely already know, DD has been nominated for a prestigious Golden Rooster award for Best Supporting Actor for his outstanding performance in Hidden Blade. Here's how to watch the film if you haven't already seen it (or if you want to see it again).
