I haven’t had any questions lately but love your blog and your insights. In a video of the group photo at Milan fashion week, GG is sitting next to the older man and they are talking. I figure in some videos when GG is talking to others he has translators but it does not look like anyone from his staff is around and I was wondering if they were speaking in English or what other languages he might speak. Love to hear your insights and hope you are doing well.
Hi coyote! Thanks so much, I'm glad you're enjoying my blog! 😊
The man he's seen talking with a lot is Diego Della Valle, the CEO of Tod's. GG has a fantastic relationship with him, and he even referred to him as yeye (grandpa) in his Vogue interview from the show.
Last time GG was in Milan Della Valle took GG on a tour of some beautiful sites around Italy - including the Colloseum in Rome -and some sites significant to the brand (the workshop, the flagship store, etc.). GG got to spend a lot of time with him, so they had plenty of opportunity to build a strong relationship.
You can tell just by his entire demeanour around GG that Della Valle adores GG. Which makes absolute sense given how cute, gracious and charming GG is. When GG arrived at the Tod's show this year Della Valle lit up like a Christmas tree.
They sat together last year at the Tod's show as well (those who missed out on last year's trip can check out my 'gg milan fashion week 2023' tag).
Anyway, you weren't asking about Della Valle, you were asking about how GG is able to communicate with him. The simple answer is that GG does have some English!
Many students in China learn English in school, although they sometimes don't get as much opportunity to speak it, so it's probably kind of like my French - I understand quite well to hear, read and write it, but my accent and pronunciation are a bit rough around the edges (that's putting it mildly 😅).
With the international travel he's done and all the elbow-rubbing he's had to do with foreign celebrities and brand stakeholders I think GG has had a lot more opportunity than the average person to exercise his language skills, so I've no doubt he's improving all the time.
He's also a huge music lover and has many times been seen singing English songs from Avril Lavigne, Ellie Goulding, Sam Smith and many more. A couple of English performances he's done in the past:
Starts at 3:22 (I'll never get over hockey player GG 🥲).
It also seems clear that GG has a general interest in languages. He knows a fair bit of Korean and he and DD are seen in The Untamed BTS speaking various languages and dialects, including English. This is also a common feature of LRLG rumors.
There are many clips to be found online of GG speaking English for ads, occasionally a few lines for drama roles, throwing in English phrases into interviews, etc. Just based those alone I think one can tell that he's got pretty good English. His pronunciation is quite good.
If you watch some of the vlogs he's posted from the international events, and some of the clips shared by brands and magazines, you can catch moments of GG having English interactions with many people at those events. One of my absolute favorites is when he's replying to a bodyguard in a vlog when he was in Florence last year (starts at 4:08).
The bodyguard is trying to teach him how to roll his r to pronounce Florence in Italian ('Firenze') and GG says, "I can't do it." The way he says it is so damn cute, I almost died when I heard it.
Anyway, so to answer your question, GG speaks in English with Della Valle and others at those events!
Hello RBS! I hope you're doing wonderfully. 😊 So I see people talking about Zhanzhan's hands being small. Is this a reference I am missing? They might be smaller than Bobo's, bc Bobo has enormous hands. (And gorgeous. Gigorgeous? I may or may not have paused shows when his hands are on screen so I can stare. 👀) But Zhanzhan's hands don't seem small, and are much bigger than any of his female costars that I've seen. What's the gist?
Also the app I use when I save fandom photos can sort faces, and it thinks GG and DD are the same person 😂 So it's not just humans who confuse the two of them!
Hi, I'm doing well, thanks! Hope you are too! 😊
GG is perfect in every way. There's nothing to see here!
Ah, you've hit upon a (good-natured) dispute between my sister and I that's been simmering for years! 😅😅😅
My sister is a huge GG stan, and I may or may not enjoy teasing her about how small GG's hands are. And she may or may not respond that DD hasn't yet grown into his "oversized puppy paws." 😅
Ultimately I think it's the fact that DD's hands are a bit bigger than average and GG's hands are a bit smaller than average that exaggerates the difference between the two. DD's hands aren't outrageously big and GG's aren't outrageously small, but when you compare the two of them the difference makes them seem so.
GG in general has proportionally slightly small hands and short arms for his body. There are some shots where it's more obvious than others, but if you start looking for it you may notice it more.
This in no way detracts from his incredible beauty, (nor from his masculinity, despite fans who exaggerate things to make him appear more feminine and delicate). It's one of the distinct characteristics people can look for when doing those "which one is it - GG or DD?" photo challenges.
Fan comparisons are inevitable - especially since it aligns with assumptions a lot of people have about GG and DD's relationship, about their sexual dynamics and roles, etc. - but AFAIAC, GG and DD are both absolutely perfect in every way, and their hand size says absolutely nothing about their relationship dynamics.
Don't be ridiculous, people!
Of course, like everything on my blog this is just my own opinion. If you disagree that's fine, but no hostile messages, please! I don't see anything about GG or DD as a flaw. I love them the way they are.
And before anyone claims that hand size has anything to do with the size of other body parts, that's a total myth (although some studies have shown that men whose index finger is shorter than their ring finger tend to be more well-endowed. Do what you will with that information 😅).
RBS help! does another cent actor have green as his fandom colour??? I’m talking about cheng yi, I just saw his selfie with his fans from iqiyi and my first thought was why is he taking pictures with mtjjs but then I found out his colour is also green! sorry if i offend any cheng yi fan unintentionally, that’s not my intention but I’m just shocked and a little disappointed. anyway please confirm if this is true? who else has the same fandom colours as our boys?? is the yellow taken by a celebrity too?
Hi Anon!
Not sure why you're so upset. There are only so many colors in the rainbow, and C-ent is large! GG and DD don't own red and green, nor do we own yellow!
Just off the top of my head, I know Dilraba is red and Hua Chenyu is red (my sister is a HCY superfan, it's completely out of control 😅). Cheng Yi's color is green because his fandom call themselves kiwis. Cai Xukun is yellow. No doubt there are many other red and green and yellow stars.
This isn't something to lose sleep over, Anon. After all, it's not the colors but the people that matter.
If you could "steal" any qualities of gg and dd, which ones would you take?
Hi Anon,
I struggle with that phrasing because I wouldn't ever 'steal' anything from GG or DD - what's theirs is theirs and I hope it always will be - but if I could emulate or embody some of their traits... hmmm...
GG - His otherworldly ability to charm people in conversation. He has stunning social skills. I wish I had that level of poise, charisma and warmth. The way he works that smile, with that disarming sweet shy demeanour when deep down you know the guy is sharp as a tack and doesn't miss a thing... he's a wolf in sheep's clothing on many levels.
Also his gorgeous, beautiful voice. Ugh.
DD - Lately I've been envying his ability to show vulnerability. It takes a hell of a lot of courage and strength. I also love his fearless ability to take on new challenges with bold confidence. Being able to dance like him would also be nice.
Even a fraction of their beauty wouldn't go amiss either. I wouldn't want to be so devastating that I was a spectacle everywhere I go like both of them are, but I wouldn't mind looking in the mirror and seeing such perfect skin and pleasing features. I'm by no means ugly, but who out there doesn't envy GG and DD's beauty? 😅
Hallo Rainbow, thank you for your blog, it´s so interesting, entertaining and informative!Since DD has now become shareholder of YH, I´m wondering if that reduces the chances him of ever coming out or get at least bolder to share the same stage again? Like now he will feel even more responsible not only for co workers on a project but for a whole business company. Of course I´m happy for him and his massive success which really is beyond imagination but my turtle heart feels a bit torn...
Hi Didiber! Thanks so much, I'm glad you're enjoying my blog! 😊
A couple things come to mind when I read this...
Fake, fan fiction, CPN.
My thoughts regarding DD and YH.
My thoughts regarding fan reactions to career and life decisions GG and DD make.
I'll start with #1. I don't think the pressure level has changed for DD. He's been carrying a lot of responsibility at Yuehua for years as the top earner there. Just because the company is now listed on the stock exchange, that's not going to really make that big of a difference to DD's activities.
The real pressure will come upon those who are in charge at Yuehua, and especially on those in charge of finding new talent that can match some of DD's earning capability.
It's been said that DD will be helping with the new talent to some degree, but ultimately it's not his burden to bear, it's the company's. Yuehua has stated they intend to use most of the capital they raised through this IPO to work on finding and developing new talent, so hopefully they'll have some success with that.
As for DD coming out, being seen on the same stage as GG, etc., the likelihood of those things happening hasn't changed at all. As I've said many times, any top star represents the work product of dozens of people. Their fortunes are deeply tied to the fortunes of the employees, brands, drama projects, management teams, etc. etc. etc. they work with. They aren't at liberty to make choices 'just for them', they have to consider all the other people and entities that will be impacted.
And that's not just on a personal level, that's on a business/legal level as well. In many cases there will be liability if they do something seriously damaging to their own image (and by extension, the image of the brand/project/entity affected). Just watch what happens when a star is canceled in China. They end up being held liable for lost revenue of some of the projects they've been a part of. That's actually government policy now - to hold stars directly accountable for the impact of their 'bad behavior'.
Is being queer 'bad behavior' that could be punished in this way? Well, the government has definitely been tightening the noose on the LGBTQ community in recent years, so it's possible, especially if GGDD's coming out became a political issue in China, or sparked a political movement of any kind - which it might - or if it was deemed to be 'a bad influence on the youth' - which it probably would, given the homophobia of this government and their emphasis on pressuring people to enter straight marriages and have children.
Even without government policy being a factor, most major entertainment contracts include clauses about this type of thing. Not just management contracts but also project contracts, brand endorsement contracts, etc. etc.
All of these factors are at play regardless of whether Yuehua is listed on the stock exchange or not. It doesn't really change a thing.
As for #2...
Disclaimer: Every fan is free to make their own choices about how to be a fan. I talk about my own feelings and perspectives but ultimately they're just my opinions. I feel strongly that everyone needs to think for themselves and form their own ideas.
I feel dismay whenever I see turtles - or really any fan - get upset about the career moves or decisions GG and DD make. In my view GG and DD should always do what's best for them and their lives and careers. Full stop.
And they are the only people qualified to make those decisions. Fans have no actual clue, and in almost all cases they don't have even passing experience/knowledge in one of the areas affecting these choices, let alone all of the complex factors that go into a choice at the level GG and DD are operating on.
GG and DD are surrounded by entire teams of experts whose only job is to consult with them and give them the best possible information on all the angles and factors that go into any decision. Legal experts, management teams, financial advisors no doubt, professional insiders, close family and friends, etc. etc. People who know the details of GG and DD's situations and goals and are uniquely qualified personally or professionally to support them in choosing what's best for them.
Any decision GG and DD make reflects what they feel is their best option given all the factors at play.
Therefore as a fan I personally choose to respect and support whatever direction GG and DD choose to go in. It's not my business to decide what's best for GG and DD, nor do I generally allow myself to view their choices through the lens of my own personal wishes or cravings. They don't owe me anything.
Especially when it comes to their personal lives, because I think it's extremely important for turtles to remember that GG and DD's relationship and their choices about whether to be out as queer are part of their personal lives. It's not work product, nor anything we have any reasonable stake in as fans.
I can wish GG would record a full album and do more live singing performances (and I do), but the fact that he hasn't done so tells me that it's not an option for him given the factors currently at play in his career. So I accept and respect that I will have to wait on that, and that it might never happen.
And as turtles we might fantasize about them being able to live openly and freely one day, about them coming out and getting married or whatever turtles daydream about, but ultimately those are very personal decisions that only they can make. If something in their career seems to lead further away from that ever happening we should remember that those are fantasies anyway, and in no way reflect GG and DD's reality.
All this to say, I hope we can all just celebrate and support GG and DD's careers. What they choose to do, what they choose to show us and where they are at right now rather than what we personally want to see happen.
I believe in GG and DD, and in their ability to know what's best for them.
I want what's best for them.
The equation couldn't possibly be simpler.
I leave it all in their capable hands.
To be clear: I'm not trying to paint anyone who laments certain impossibilities as selfish jerks. What I'm trying to do is to encourage us all to look at things from a different angle - one that will hopefully make us all happier, calmer and more stable as fans, and will make it easier for us to support and accept GG and DD's choices.
its realy worrying me seeing bobo coughing again.I know he has big team to take care of him.But still he is constantly hardworking even after getting hurt.for example ,like the sunshine performance .it's really shocking that he worked continuously for 42 hours in "hidden blade" shooting.I am not sure overworking is the reason for his cough.I just remembering the birthday letter from GG through yibo official for his last year birthday.he told bobo to go little slow and take care of himself more while doing hard work.i want to tell the same to him.
Do you think there is a pressure on him to work continuously because of his current brand value or the company he is working under ? Or it is his individual choice?
Hi Anon 😊
I understand that we all love DD, but let's not jump to fearful theories and hand-wringing whenever we see something like this.
All of this is perfectly normal. It's perfectly normal for film shoots to be grueling and intense. It's perfectly normal for people to get sick from time to time. We all experience it. DD is no different than any other human and is prone to illness every now and then.
The unfortunate thing for him is that it happens at an inconvenient time when he's trying to do promo for this film. He is a trooper for staying strong through it and doing a great job. He is a professional through and through.
Hopefully he will be able to get a bit of rest over the holiday.
As for being overworked, etc., You clearly don't remember 2020. 😅😅😅
DD has been busy over the last little while obviously, but for the most part it's been a pretty quiet year for him comparatively speaking. He is in a good place in his career and is in a position to have a high degree of control over his own choices, and I trust him to make ones that are best for him.
He's also surrounded by people who look out for him. Don't worry about Bobo too much. He's in good hands. 😊
Hi... I'm a bit curious about the income and wealth of Chinese artists, especially WYB and XZ. As we know, China is a country that requires equality of population. I once visited China and was told that even their houses cannot be passed on to their children. So I wonder, what about the artist's life, is it luxurious like other artists in a freer country. Will they be able to spend their income on pleasure or something extravagant? Never before have I read about the possessions of Chinese artists. Thanks in advance for your feedback.
It's funny that you've actually been to China and I've never been, but you're asking me how Chinese people live. 😅
Just kind of funny because I've never actually been there (would love to go someday!)
Fake, Fan fiction, CPN.
I think you were misinformed about the inheritance thing. I know that Chinese people can leave property to each other because that's one of the few legal rights queer couples have in China. You can read more about that here.
As for the wealth thing, I'm a bit surprised to be asked about whether Chinese people are able to enjoy luxury. China is rapidly becoming the biggest market for luxury goods in the world. Chinese rich kids are all over social media flaunting their extreme wealth. There was even a controversial challenge (pictured above) where rich people were tasked with photographing themselves falling out of luxury vehicles with luxury goods spilling out around them.
China has some of the most beautiful luxury hotels and resorts in the world, some of the biggest luxury markets in the world. China is in many ways more crazy about wealth/luxury than Americans. Some of GG and DD's biggest endorsements are with luxury brands.
I don't know how else to quantify all this, but to answer your question - yes, GG and DD can (and I'm sure, do) live quite comfortably and enjoy their wealth. GG and DD regularly appear in luxury clothing and accessories in their downtime (i.e. not endorsement items). DD collects Rolex and other luxury watches. They aren't disgusting about it, but no doubt they do well for themselves.
Like everywhere else in the world, China is a place of 'haves' and 'have nots'. Sure, in theory it's a communist nation where everyone is equal, but in practice it's totally not. 😅
There has been a lot of lip service paid to equality and against flaunting of wealth (it's actually something that is now censored in China - possibly in response to the social media 'flaunt your wealth' challenge I talked about earlier), but in reality there is massive income inequality there just like everywhere else.
That's an impossible question to answer. People have made guesses about it, but they are nothing more than guesses. No one knows for sure. It's none of our business.
Given where their careers are at right now, I suspect they're doing very well for themselves. That's all I really care about. As long as they have security in the event something changes in their careers or if/when they retire, that's good enough for me.
