एकता दिवस के मौके पर देश को संबोधित करते हुए पीएम मोदी ने कहा कि, हम लोगों ने सरदार पटेल जी के ये विचार सुने। उनकी वाणी में जो शक्ति थी, उनके विचारों में जो प्रेरणा थी, उसे हम महसूस कर सकते हैं।

नई दिल्ली। एकता दिवस के मौके पर जवानों ने प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के सामने मॉक ड्रिल ने करके दिखाया। इस दौरान यहां एक मॉक आतंकी हमले का रुपांतरण किया गया और किस तरह जवानों ने इसका सामना किया, ये प्रदर्शित किया गया। इस मौके पर लोगों को सरदार पटेल का भाषण भी सुनाया गया।

Day 3: Ahmedabad - Adlaj - Ghandinagar - Palitana

After a rather leisurely breakfast, we met our driver - Mr Pahad Chand - at 9:30am. Mr Chand drives a tidy white Toyata Etios with AC.

Mr Chand quickly escorts us to the small town of Adlaj which is home to a 1000 year old stepwell - Adlaj Vav. The stepwell is five stories deep, with each level being as intricately carved as the next. Although it is nearly 30 degrees in the sun - the depths of the well are refreshingly cool.

Next we visited the Hindu version of a Mormon Disneyland - Akshardham in Ghandinagar. Opened in 1992, and dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan, it is a massive temple, made out of red Rajisthani Sandstine, complete with massive manicured gardens with elephant shaped bushes, a water park and the worlds only vedic water show complete with music, fire and lasers. Just like Disneyland, we forked out 100 rupees to get our photo taken with the temple. It was worth it. We were greated inside by Nitesh Patel, a UK based engineer who runs tours of the temple for a month every year. Nitesh was a great guy who proceeded to tell us about another great guy - Lord Swaminarayan. Did you know he stood on one leg for two and a half years? We also saw his teeth, ashes, toe nail clippings and hair - Nitesh assured me that this was enough objective proof of Lord Swaminarayan’s existence and I agreed with hin wholeheartedly.

The rest of the day was spent travelling to our next destination of Palitana. On the way we stopped for lunch at a roadsode restaurant and visited Lothal - a 4000 year old Indus Valley settlement.

After about four hours of driving we arived at our hotel - Vijay Vilas Adpur. This is a 1906 villa with the largest bed in the world. Early night tonight as tomorrow we make the climb to Shatrunjaya.
