Yep. Confusing people one silly image at a time. So yep, it is the top of a a graduation hat and yes it is a greek letter beta. It's my graduation hat from the University of Michigan and the symbol is the symbol for the estimated value of the slope in a regression equation (you don't need to know this, I'm a statistician). But, as a massive nerd, I thought this was hugely funny because the symbol is called "beta-hat" and it's on a hat. So it's a beta-hat hat. 

Yep. I am so nerdy.
