Pintei os rostos de alguns dos habitantes deste bairro que está a ser demolido e despejado, onde estão a deixar as pessoas na rua sem alternativas viáveis para poderem viver com um teto. Quem ficou fora do registo PER de 1993 está a ver a casa onde viveu destruída, com todos os seus pertences deixados na rua. Tudo isto em pleno século XXI, em Portugal, União Europeia. Quando estas paredes onde estão marcados os rostos deste moradores forem demolidas, que se aproveite para reflectir que não é apenas cimento e tijolo que se está a destruir. Estão a destruir vidas de pessoas que viveram e vivem em dificuldades e que agora vêm o seu mais elementar direito retirado: a habitação. I painted the portraits of some of the inhabitants of this community that's being torn down and people are being evicted and left out in the streets without any viable alternatives to live under a roof. Those who were left out of the 1993 PER resettlement scheme are seeing the house where they lived being pulled down with all of their belongings left in the street. All of this in the 21st century, in Portugal, European Union. My hope is that when these walls with these portraits are pulled down, people can reflect about the fact that it's not only concrete and brick that are being destroyed. They are also destroying the lives of people who have lived and live in hardship and now see their most basic right being taken away: housing.
