For weeks now, Ghidorah’s been coming to visit you. Every morning, he waits by your front door to greet you, to kiss you, and of course to be kissed back. The current in his chest hums the moment he sees your smile. But a part of him wishes he could rip this side right out of him.
He shouldn’t be feeling like this, he’s never felt it before, and for a human no less. He’s a god, a three headed beast of hurricanes and chaos. So why? Why does the mere sight of you make his heart thunder in his chest? There’s rumors among other kaiju that he’s grown soft, and if they find out about this, about you, he’ll never hear the end of it. Ghidorah shakes off the thought. No one, no one, can know about this. He wants this feeling to die.
He’s acts a menace. Lashing out and picking fights constantly, as if that’ll make that warmth inside him go away. He tries to avoid you. Maybe the feeling will fade? But the further he flies from you, the more the strings that tug at his heart stretch, begging to snap back to you. He can’t take it. He’ll find a way to have it both ways, he just… hasn’t thought that far ahead yet.
He sneakily waits outside your place, well, as sneaky as a dragon the size of a skyscraper can be. He tucked behind some trees, heads checking the sky for any signs of other kaiju roaming above. You walk out the door. The coast looks clear but right as he’s about to step out, a distant roar cracks through the air. Another monster, Rodan, is circling ever closer. Ghidorah panics. He should leave right now, but you spot him hiding and can’t help but choke out a laugh when you spot him.
“I can see you!” You try really hard not to cackle as he squishes himself smaller behind the short trees. His massive body and wings poke out of the leaves. He looks ridiculous and the worst part is he knows it. Rodan is closer, scouring the ground. He steps out exposed, defeated, but trying not to wear it on his wing, lest anyone notice.
“Hi,” you give him a cute little finger wave. He doesn’t bother looking at you. Or rather he can’t, because whenever he does, that glow in his chest turns into a damn light show. It’s so embarrassing. “I missed you, y’know? It’s been so long since I’ve seen you.” He huffs at your greeting, his eyes looking up, waiting for Rodan to pass over this agonizing moment. His coldness hurt, so you move along with your day, leaving him to panic and brood.
Rodan finally flies past. How much of that he saw is unknown to Ghidorah. You’re already long gone when the heads start arguing. ‘Fuck. That was terrible, and now she must think we don’t care about her,’ the thought makes him spiral. The left head whines wanting to go after you. The right is snarling, pissed off at how poorly that went. The middle bashes his skull into the ground, groaning, until… ‘I have an idea. It’s foolproof, surely. We’re gonna win here back, question is… how?’
Ghidorah soars until he spots what he’s looking for. Times Square. Crowds scream and empty out when he lands, but he’s not after them. He’s looking at the screens.
‘What do humans even like?’ On one screen, a trailer for some flashy action movie. The right head thinks up something that would really impress you, but the others disagree. On another, a perfume commercial with a woman in a field of flowers. ‘Yes, that’ll work.’ It 2 vs 1, and Ghidorah flies off, feeling inspired.
Now, he needs to be quick about this. His left and middle head are tearing up an orchard, ripping trees from the ground. The right is keeping watch for any kaiju. ‘Hurry up. This idea is stupid,’ he complains. The three of them bicker, getting progressively more upset, only stopping when they hear the shriek of somebody else.
‘How long has Rodan been standing there?’ His eyes dart between Ghidorah and the blooming trees, and then he smirks. He knows.
Shit.
Rodan cries out a high pitched laugh. Ghidorah fumes, but the heads look at eachother in gleeful agreement. ‘Maybe we can incorporate the other idea after all.’ The electrified look he gives Rodan, makes his smile drop. ‘Should’ve minded your business.’
The next day, you step outside once again to a surprise. Flies buzz around Rodan’s decapitated head, crushed beneath Ghidorah’s foot. He puffs up his chest, looking as stoic as a statue, but his heart races a mile a minute. Surrounding him, pink cherry blossom trees are piled all around, completely uprooted. ‘Do you think she’s impressed?,’ the left asks the others.
You walk right past him, giving him the same cold shoulder he gave you the day before. He screeches and blocks your path, whining, nudging you to go back and see what he brought you. You ignore him, secretly giddy inside.
He sulks off, a thundercloud forming above. He looks kinda cute when he’s a little pissed off. It downpours. In his anger, he fries Rodan’s head to a crisp with his electric breath. ‘This was stupid,’ He slouches over, staring at the ground. The sound of water ringing on metal makes him turn around.
You stand there filling up your water bottle in the rain. “Thanks for the refill,” you smile and step next to him. He tucks you under his wing, not wanting you to get too cold. Gentle thunder rolls, the droplets making small tapping sounds as they hit the webbing. You lean into him and he coos gently, looking at you with melancholy eyes.
“You know I love you too right?” You glance up at him. His eyes brighten up when he realizes what you just said. “And this was cute. Well maybe not-,” you look at Rodan’s charred head and decide to not mention it. “It’s…the sweetest thing anyone’s done for me.” Ghidorah looks at your glistening eyes, sparkling from the light in his body, and decides right there that he’d do this forever, regardless of what the others think. He plucks a flower from one of the trees and sticks it in your hair.
