In the last few weeks, I was working to get a job and these last two weeks I’ve been working it. During that time however, I was on a video game vacation of sorts. Where? A beautiful trash pile known as Runescape.

But that’s over now. I’m taking back the reigns and I already got a few transmog sets lined up for y’all! Lion’s Mantle is also beginning it’s final steps before our applications open up. We are currently unsure how long these steps will take and there’s always the possibility that the steps will take longer than we expect. @shydaaa has been working with me diligently on these steps as well as being an awesome sounding board in times of need. A big shout out to @shydaaa for being a radical Co-GM.
I will begin posting more regularly again, thank you all for your patience.
Three loud bangs against the door woke the young Ghorthas up. He rushed to grab his dagger that he was convinced to be a smaller sword and lept out of bed. Holding the blade in front of him, he listened from the captain’s quarters to hear if anything was amiss. Everything was as it usually was, footsteps around the ship, the crew yelling at one another, even the ship itself seemed fine.
“Ghorthas! It’s Rob! You have ta see this!” A voice erupted from outside the door. The young night elf smiled as he recognized the voice and sheathed his dagger onto a belt lying on the floor. He pulled the belt off of the floor and strapped it around his waist. Ghorthas slept in his usual work clothes but he didn’t care.
“Hurry, son! It’s very rare that we get to see this!” Rob yelled, pounding on the door again as he walked away from it. Ghorthas skipped to the door, opening it wide with a large grin on his face. He looked around but saw nothing out of the ordinary from the cabin so he took a few steps outside and looked up. The young night elf frowned as he looked up, seeing what looked to be storm clouds.
“You… brought me out here to see the rain? Isn’t this a bad thing?” Ghorthas asked, putting his hand on his hip and turning his head every way he could think to find what his father was talking about. All of the crew seemed a little more on edge than usual, everyone except Rob McDawn who appeared to be in the most excited mood.
“No! Son, come over here and look at the port!” Rob shouted, looking over the side to admire the port they were going to dock into. Ghorthas raised his eyebrow and walked over to his father slowly and sleepily. He looked over the side as well and saw the most foreign sight. The entire port was covered in a thick white slush. The young night elf’s eyes widened, he was just as frozen as the port was. The old human laughed, patting his son on the back.
“It’s snowing! Isn’t that amazing?!” Rob added with a cheer. A few of the crew members sighed at that comment while Ghorthas continued to stare at it as they got closer. The young night elf didn’t even realize how the cold was nipping at his skin. All he knew is that there was a thing called snow and he already loved it.
“Ah… we should get you into some warmer clothing before we dock off. You’ll find snow is very cold.” Rob said as he turned around and walked back to the captain’s quarters. The son of the captain continued to smile as he looked onwards. He heard many grunts and sighs from the crew. Most of the complaining being about how it’ll be awhile before they sail again. But nothing could keep the young night elf from the excitement of snow.
During the events of the Reopening of the Dark Portal…
Ghorthas’ face filled with glee as he approached the grand city of Darnassus. This was his first time meeting his people, he didn’t know what to fully expect. The only other time he had seen them was during the Third War when he watched as night elves and orcs spilled each other’s blood. But a hole was left in his heart, one that has made him desperate to find a place where he belonged. A night elf with considerable age and a long hair that reached the bottom of ankles led Ghorthas to Darnassus. Even giving the young night elf a history lesson on the place.
“We are here, Shadowsinger.” The older night elf said, holding his hand out to the great tree city. Ghorthas stared up at the city, grinning widely. But his grin turned into a look of confusion as he turned to face the older night elf.
“...Shadowsinger?” Ghorthas asked, scratching the back of his head. The older night elf nodded and pulled a small book from his robe. He opened the book to show the younger night elf the drawings of two night elves in the book. The male had a scraggly, savage look. Only wearing ceremonial beads. Whereas the female had a dignified and immaculate look. Her hair was wrapped in a thick braid and she wore robes akin to what Ghorthas had seen the night elven priestesses wearing.
“Yeaeden and Jaenia Shadowsinger. These are your parents, I have long awaited your return.” The older night elf said, smiling as he closed the book softly and placed it back in his robe. Ghorthas’ eyebrows furrowed. He shook his head.
“They didn’t raise me, please just call me McDawn, alright?” Ghorthas asked as he crossed his arms. The older night elf squinted at Ghorthas and shook his head. He even laughed at him.
“You jest, right? Kaldorei don’t give out such… blunt… names. How about I refer to you as Telmaeron, hm?” The older night elf said, trying to keep himself from laughing. Ghorthas raised his eyebrow and planted his foot into the ground.
“Where did you find THAT name? In some saber’s arse?” Ghorthas asked, shaking his hands uncontrollably. The older night elf sighed and rubbed his forehead. He took a step to put his hands on Ghorthas’ shoulders.
“It’s your birth name, Telmaeron Shadowsinger. They intended greatness for you, child. Like all night elves, we have these names to know one another. I am Delrethe Moonscape for example.” The older night elf said, making hand gestures to illustrate his point. Ghorthas let out a sigh of his own and shook his head.
“Fine… But call me… Ghorthas Dawn...singer.” The younger night elf said reluctantly. Delrethe was about to say something but stopped himself as Ghorthas glared at him. The older night elf nodded and took a few steps ahead. The younger night elf followed him.
They had walked around one of the major market places. Ghorthas had almost completely let go of the conversation he had with Delrethe before. Instead his attention was focused on the beautiful scenery and the merchants themselves. He attempted to buy a few things but every time he would, Delrethe would pull him aside. The young night elf didn’t understand why but he continued on. Ghorthas watched as a couple, a male and a female night elf spoke in some language he didn’t understand. He realized that they all had been speaking it but his mind was too occupied to notice.
“What language do they speak?” “Darnassian, the ancient language of the Kaldorei.” Delrethe said, looking at Ghorthas with an almost malicious grin. The young night elf looked at the older, raising his eyebrow.
“What languages have you learned? Other than common.” Delrethe asked, looking at Ghorthas expectantly. The young night elf shrugged, even started to chuckle at that comment.
“The closest translation would be… Nerglish. It’s not as fancy as all that.” Ghorthas answered, about to burst out laughing. Delrethe raised his eyebrow and chuckled himself.
“Is this… a made up language?” Delrethe asked. Ghorthas shook his head and began to speak the very language right then and there. But to someone who didn’t understand the language of the murlocs, it sounded very much like gurgling and gibberish. Many of the nearby kaldorei looked at him with confusion. Ghorthas stopped, biting his lip a little as he was now the center of attention. Delrethe pulled at his shoulder and almost dragged him out of the marketplace.
“My, you are a special case… We will eventually teach you Darnassian so you don’t… do that… again.” Delrethe said, looking away from the young elf intentionally. Ghorthas blushed, his body shook a little bit as they continued to walk away from the marketplace. The older night elf let go of him as they got closer to more residential side of Darnassus. Delrethe continued to lead and the young, blushing, night elf followed. Eventually coming upon a house that held a purple moon crest above the door.
“W-Why have we stopped?” Ghorthas asked, frowning. Delrethe grinned, taking a few steps forward. He lifted his robed arm and thrust his hand towards the crest.
“Welcome to the home of the Shadowsingers.” The older night elf said as he slowly pushed open the door. Just from the doorway, you could see boxes thrust about everywhere, dust lining the ground like paint, and even some small critters ran from one end of the house to the other. Ghorthas’ excitement from earlier became utter disappointment. He took a few steps inside, inspecting everything around him. A dresser with beautiful clothes, tipped over onto the ground. Even the silk lined dressed were falling out. Brushes, combs, oils, all broken on the floor. The downstairs bed wasn’t just unmaid but the lining of the blankets was completely ripped apart. Ghorthas widened his eyes and would wring his hands.
“What… What is this? What… happened here?” Ghorthas asked hesitantly, continuing to stare at the torn up scene. Delrethe rubbed the back of his neck and stared at the younger night elf.
“I only assumed… your sister would’ve taken care of the place before she disappeared, oh well.” Delrethe said, grinning awkwardly. Ghorthas whirled around and stared holes into Delrethe.
“What happened to… my family?” The young night elf asked, shaking his entire body. Delrethe’s ears drooped as he wrapped his arms around himself defensively.
“I’ll tell you--” “Tell me now!” Ghorthas interupted, shaking even more. Delrethe’s eyes widened, putting one of his hands inside his robe.
“I’m.. sorry… I should’ve told you from the beginning… Your parents have been… dead since the second war of the scarab. Soon after, your sister ran off and has never been spotted since.” Delrethe said hesitantly, pulling out his book and flipping through pages. Ghorthas’s fists shook, he looked around the room once more. He knew exactly what he didn’t want to know.
I don’t belong here.
“Telmae-- I mean… Ghorthas, please consider your family’s legacy.” The older night elf said, showing the page with both his mother and father drawn in. Ghorthas smacked the book out of Delrethe’s hand and shook his head.
“I’m done, I’m going back to Stormwind.” The young night elf said as he stormed out of the hut. Delrethe watched as he went from an angry stomp to a full on sprint outside. The older night elf shrugged. Even began to chuckle.
