I love the idea of ghost bakugou cooling you down 🥺
You just moved into this shitty apartment in the city. It’s tired and run down and the worst part is there’s absolutely no air con. The temperature is sweltering in the heat of summer as you try to open all the windows to try and allow some air into the muggy space.
Stripping down to your underwear helps a bit, but it’s horrible when you feel yourself sticking to your faux leather couch. Wincing as you peel yourself off it to grab a glass of water in a feeble attempt to try and take the edge off.
Bakugou’s been watching you since you moved in— sitting across the room as you unpack your belongings bit by bit. Taking extra time to assess the photo frames that you position around the apartment, noting that none of the pictures seem to show a boyfriend. Not that you’d be interested in him anyway—
He’s respectful, and gives you your space. You’re far easier to live with than the other assholes that had moved in before, quieter and cleaner too.
But when the temperatures begin to soar and your clothes seem to disappear he can’t help but stare at you. Jesus, you’re gorgeous. His cock throbs as he watches your flustered face as you fan yourself with a pizza takeout menu for the shitty restaurant down the street that he can’t believe is still open. He used to eat there all the time before— well, this.
Coming up behind you in the kitchen as you lean over the counter to turn the tap, pouring water into a mug as you take a huge gulp of it as the water continues flowing.
“You always like wasting water, hah?” He speaks, this time you hear him as the mug you were holding clatters to the floor. Smashing into multiple pieces around your bare feet as you curse, turning around to see a translucent Bakugou standing in your apartment, “Jesus Christ, woman— careful.”
He takes a step forward, his palm raised in an attempt to stop you moving. Scared you’ll jolt back and step onto the sharp porcelain now scattered on the ground.
Summary: This cold case you take is not a fun one, but it pays the bills. On another note, you're pretty positive your new house is haunted and about to find out by who...
Warnings: Mentions of harm against children, death, cursing, dark themes.
Your new home was not too far from the police station, leaving the quiet neighborhood to return into the busy city made a sigh leave your lips. The usual spot you parked in was wide open so you swung the vehicle in quickly before someone snagged it. Taking a moment to check that your mask sat in place before making your way inside the building.
"Phantom!"
A few officers greeted you by your hero name as you gave a curt waive to those you recognized. Avoiding acknowledging anyone you were not familiar with as the station seemed to be a busy location for those who choose to linger. Talking to someone who was not there is easily the quickest way to earn yourself a one way ticket to s straight jacket.
The door you stood before now was a solid wood, years of use taking a toll in the form of scrapes and peeling coating along the grain. The equally worn nameplate read "Inspector Tsukauchi" you took a moment to knock just below, your toe scuffing against the innocent carpet as you waited. Inside the sound of movement could be heard, the door swinging open to reveal the weary eyes of the older gentleman you had worked with many a time.
"Phantom, welcome. Come on in."
He stood aside to let you pass, taking your normal chair in front of his desk as he closed the door with a small click. He took his place across from you and took a quick, hearty breath.
"I'm going to get straight to the point here, a young girl was hit by a car last night. There are no witnesses... well any that are willing to talk anyway. We're trying to find the culprit but those who were in the area are refusing to come forward. I was hoping with your skills we could contact her."
Your nails dug into the material covering your thigh, "This case is for a slain kid?"
He nodded solemnly before shuffling some papers to pull a square from the files. He slid a clear photo across for your viewing, yielding a small girl with wildly dark locks that framed her round face. Bright pink eyes and a large gap toothed smile peeked out at you.
Rubbing your temples you sighed, cases involving children were always the hardest to swallow. They were the ones that kept you up at night, at this rate knowing you probably wont be sleeping for a few days most likely.
"Where was she hit?" He began his briefing, throwing some facts at you with rapid fire as you took down notes in a small notebook you always kept in your costume for this reason. The area she had been struck was one known for a string of hit and runs in a lower end of town. Some facts in the paperwork he showed you stuck out as you cleared your throat.
"You think this is a serial case? They hit her on purpose?"
He nodded with that serious look in his eyes, "Unfortunately so, they've been targeting kids. This makes the third one this week alone."
Running a hand over your face with a groan, "Have the heroes gotten anyone to talk?"
He stood now, waiving a hand at the bulletin board to the right of his desk. "I sent over a few agency requests and no one has been successful in getting a single person to cooperate. This area is still a bit of the faction that distrusts the law."
Inhaling deeply you stood from your chair and held out your hand for the file. "I'll take it."
He gave an appreciative smile and placed the file in your outstretched hand. "This is the victim's information, her parents and family are listed here along with her last known address. Please contact me immediately with any leads."
Taking the file you gave him a quick bow of your head before slipping out of the office.
"Hey! Phantom!" Turning to the familiar voice you found the current number two jogging over.
"Ah, Deku hello." You waived with the hand still gripping the file.
"Taking on a new case?" His thousand watt smile spread across his face while you placed the paperwork into the bag hanging at your hip.
"Yeah, hit and run involving a kid. I'm supposed to contact her."
His smile faulted as he crossed his arms, "I tried talking to the citizens in that neighborhood yesterday, no one would speak with me. Most likely due to my hero ranking, they're a bit distrustful of anyone of authority there."
You took out your notepad to list down his experience there, giving the run down of who he spoke to, or tried to.
"Oh! Did you find a new place with Shinso?"
Cocking a brow you looked up from your notepad. Working with Deku had been only a few times so the fact that he knew you and Hitoshi were friends surprised you. He chuckled lightly when you said nothing, rubbing the back of your neck.
"I saw him a few weeks ago, he said you were moving."
It hit you that Hitoshi and Deku had been in the same year at UA, of course they would know each other. Hitoshi had always spoke highly of the man especially on how he had helped him in his resolve to become a hero back in his first year.
"Yeah we moved into a new neighborhood, It's quite peaceful."
We chatted just a bit longer as you told him the area you moved into but redacted the address when he perked up his normal attitude even more... somehow.
"That's by my mom's place! I grew up in that area, I'll have to swing by sometime!"
Giving him a quick wave goodbye, you made your way to the scene of the crime. The area surrounding you consisted of run down buildings with boarded windows, old apartment complexes that you would avoid stepping foot in unless you absolutely had to.
Walking down the block it didn't take you very long to locate a small child with red rimmed pink eyes from the tears spilling down her apple shaped cheeks.
Taking a quick glance around, not a single person stopped to check on her as they moved along with their day. This definitely had to be the girl.
"Hey Sweetie." You called softly, her head snapping towards you rather quickly.
"You... Can see me?" She choked out as you moved to sit beside her on the curb. Peeking around to make sure no one was paying you any mind before responding.
"Yes I can, what's your name?" Her eyes scanned you warily for a moment, sniffling and wiping her nose with a sleeve. "Nami."
You pushed back the hood of your costume so she could see your face more clearly, your E/C eyes shining through the mask to put her at ease.
"How old are you Nami?"
"Five." You chewed your lip, She was just old enough to get her quirk for the first time.
"Why are you crying sweetpea?"
She pointed a stubby finger towards the road, "A car hit me, and the guy just got out and laughed at me. It hurt so bad! He drove away when someone screamed really loud... I think it was my mommy. No one will talk to me anymore! I just want my mom!"
Fresh tears began spilling from her bright eyes once again as you took another quirk glance around. The sidewalks had seemingly cleared out of people so you were currently alone with the small apparition.
"Have you seen your mommy since?"
She bobbed her head, "She ignored me."
You slid a hand into your pocket and pulled out a wrapped sucker.
"Would you like one?" You offered the small candy to her, face lighting up when her little eyes spied the treat.
"My mommy said not to take candy from strangers though."
You chuckled with a nod, "She's a smart lady, I'm Phantom. Part time hero here to help you."
Her small hand raised to snatch the candy with a wide smile. Slipping right though however she let out a small whimper.
Crap, you would have to touch her.
You pulled off your glove by catching the fabric between your teeth, letting it drop you inhaled deeply before reaching out and grabbing her tiny hand. When no vision of death wracked you, the breath released in extreme relief.
"Try again." You coaxed her and she raised her hand again to snatch the candy successfully from your fingers. A squeal of delight left her as she ripped at the wrapper with her other hand, your hand barely touching her shoulder to ground.
"N-Nami?" A voice croaked out, your eyes finding an older version of the little girl happily eating the sucker standing a few feet away.
"Mommy?" The girl sobbed, dropping the treat to crack on the cement.
Shit, you were hoping they weren't related. You really hadn't gotten to ask the girl much of anything yet.
The girl hopped up quickly and your hand dropped from her shoulder, disappearing from all other's view.
"Wait, where did she go?" The woman's head swiveled in a panic, clear confusion in her eyes.
"Mrs. Nakamora?" You stepped before her while she gave you a glance over, eyes hardening when she realized you wore a hero costume.
"Can I help you?" She snapped and took a defensive stance.
You placed your hand on the top of the little girl's head, her form becoming visible once again. "Is this your daughter?"
Her eyes dropped and lit up, tears swimming as she released a whimper. "How is she here?"
You cleared your throat, the little girl's arms wrapping around her mother's legs.
"I missed you mommy!" She dropped to her knees, arms wrapping around her child. Her body shook with sobs that wracked her entire body.
You gave them a moment before speaking, "My name is Phantom ma'am, my quirk allows me to interact with ghosts and make them visible to others. I've been tasked with finding your daughter's killer. Do you have any idea who could of done this and why?"
She shook her head, eyes lifting to you. "No, I have no idea! She let of my hand and ran into the street because she saw a dog on the other side. This dark colored sedan was coming and instead of trying to avoid her it swerved for her. Swerved! On purpose! I couldn't get to her fast enough and there were no... Heroes around."
Her final words were spit with venom on her tongue along with the glare she sent your way.
"I am truly sorry no one was around to help her. I am here now. She is not the only one from the sounds of it and will not be the last unless we find her killer. Please ma'am, anything else you can tell me about the car, or the person driving?"
She huffed before finally giving all the details of the last few moments with her daughter. The little girl sat happily in her mother's arms while chewing on a new sucker you had pulled from your pocket to replace the one she had dropped. Turns out the man had worn a medical mask to cover his face, had darker hair that was so greasy it hung in tendrils around his face.
Details all stored away in your notebook, taking a quick glance around. "Anyone else that may have seen what happened? Anyone at all?"
She turned and indicated with her head to the building behind her. "Older guy in that apartment up there. He's so nosy, always peeking out his window at people all the time. No way he didn't miss it."
You thanked her for all her time today as a deep rooting in your gut hit like a wave in the ocean. It was time to let the girl go or you were going to be painting the ground a new color.
"I am truly sorry to say this, but it is time for me to go. Please take a few moments to say your goodbyes."
You turned your head to give them a brief moment of privacy as the woman professed her love to the little girl, squeezing her as tightly as she could. When she placed her down on her feet, you knelt down to eye level with those bright eyes. Speaking lowly so only the little one could hear, taking those small hands in yours.
"It's time to go Nami, this nice gentleman here will be taking you to a pretty place filled with doggies."
Relinquishing her hand to the smiling man in his dapper suit, she looked up at him with wide eyes. He gave you a brief nod and a thanks before turning with the little girl in tow. She began chatting him up like they were old friends as he led her away, their forms slowly faded from view until nothing was left but the sidewalk and empty street.
Reapers were an interesting bunch, always recognizable by those smart suits and a small golden pin on the lapel. The symbol of their rank within the organization. You had run into a few early on and they tended to stay out of your way as you worked.
You left the stunned woman on the street and made your way into the building she had indicated the nosy man lived in. The carpets were dingy, frayed and missing chunks in spots. Walls had peeling paint and dark stains of water that had clearly been leaking for some time. Landlords who most definitely did not care for their tenants were present in every code violation you witnessed during your walk to the upper floor.
The door posted as 4D to the apartment that overlooked the street from the second floor, was as grimy as the rest of the building. Deep cracks lined the frame from previous attempts to breaking the door down or enough slams that the wood gave out.
Knocking, you waited patiently as you shifted weight from one foot to another. A second attempt was needed when no one answered, when you lowered your hand to knock again the door opened just a sliver. Narrowed eyes of an older gentleman looked through the chain that held the door at just enough to see who had the audacity to knock on his door.
"The fuck ya want?" His gruff voice sounded into the hall, you raised the photo of the girl into his view.
"Did you see this girl get hit by a car outside your building the other day?"
The door slammed in your face, chewing on your cheek in annoyance before knocking once again.
The door opened only for the briefest of moment, "Fuck off!" and slammed back into place.
Taking a deep breath your knock turned more aggressive, the door rattling with your fist. Swinging open he growled "I said Fuck Off! I ain't speaking ta no heroes!"
When the door closed once again you had enough, phasing through the wood and shocking the stocky man inside.
He began threatening to call the cops as you lifted the photo to interrupt. "Sir, This little girl was killed by a driver who swerved to hit her on purpose. This is not the first time and it will not be last unless we stop it.
His eyes narrowed, never leaving yours as you watched the wheels turn in his head to contemplate wither or not to help or reach for his phone. Making a decision he finally crossed to the window the mother had pointed at, sitting between the curtains was a professional looking camera pointing towards the street. He removed the cover from the rear and pulled something from a slot before turning and tossing it across the room to you.
Snatching the object easily from the air you opened your fingers to find a small black chip sitting on your palm. Cocking a brow you eyed him for an explination.
"I bird watch, happened ta' see what happened. I quick took some pictures and wasn't sure if I should call someone or not. Tend ta keep ta' myself... stay outta' trouble."
He sniffled and waived his hand towards the door. "That's all I got for ya, so get ta fuck out. Don't tell nobody I helped ya."
You bowed gratefully, "Thank you sir, you may have saved lives."
He huffed as you turned to exit the door properly this time, returning to your car down the street. You placed your head against the steering wheel for a brief moment, inhaling deeply before turning the key and listening to the engine start up with a roar.
The inspector took all your evidence with a wide grin on his face, "That was fast, you were only gone for a few hours!" You nodded while leaning back in your chair, placing your boots onto the chair opposite from you. "Helps when you can make a girl appear to persuade the mother into talking, might've scared an old man too."
He laughed while signing a form and sliding it across his desk. "As always keep an eye out for a subpoena to possibly testify if this leads to the arrest. From the looks of the negatives, we may have enough to go on and finally get someone behind bars for this. I think that license plate alone is the biggest win."
Taking the familiar slip you glanced it over to check everything was in order as he continued. "Your payment will be with Lisa as per usual, Great work today. I know when I say Thank you it's from everyone."
Giving a brief nod you stood from the comfortable chair and rounded towards the door. Fingers encircling the knob you paused, turning after a moment to find him watching you with a curious expression.
"Next time... No kids please. I... can't do them anymore."
He grunted in affirmation watching you leave his office. You passed through the aisle surrounded by cubicles until you found yourself before the window of your favorite lady in the world, the one who signed your paychecks.
"Lisa! My beautiful lady, I have come to collect."
The elderly woman looked up from the book in her winkled hands, cocking a brow she shot you a lopsided grin. "One of these days I'll have to start charging you for your lies."
You lips puckered in a pout when someone tapped your shoulder, flinching away and backing against the wall in shock shared by the rookie officer with a raised hand. He gasped and shot apologies rapidly left and right.
"Oh I am sorry Ma'am! I just, wanted to say I'm a big fan..." He smiled softly, cheeks dusted a light shade of pink as he rubbed the back of his neck. His fresh face indicated he couldn't have been on the force very long.
"You know who I am?" You stood up slowly while giving him a look of interest. Since you had only been on the pro scene for a short time, it always surprised you when someone new recognized who you were. The majority were those who had worked with you previously wither during your time at UA or on the field.
"Yes! I have seen you in here a few times. I followed you when you debuted awhile back."
A snort from behind you caused you to turn around to find an amused Lisa leaning over her desk. "The Boy asks about you every time he sees you pick up your check. He tries to bribe information from me with snacks."
His face turned ten shades of red when you turned back to him to confirm if this was the case. "I do not! That would be so unprofessional!"
His hands waived around as he shot pleading eyes your way to let the issue go. You chuckled while fishing into your bag and revealing a candy bar. Handing it behind you it was snatched quickly by her waiting fingers and a squeal.
"I pay her for information too." You winked at the rookie who smiled as if you hung the moon.
"Here's your check Phantom." The paper was placed in your fingers in exchange for the candy.
"Thank you Lisa, once again you are beautiful, amazing, smart..."
"Aw hush kiss ass and get away from my counter."
You laughed loudly while making an escape from the rookie who stood there shifting his feet as if he had more to say.
"Sorry kid, better luck next time." The elderly woman spoke while making the wrapper of her candy wrinkle to get at the sugary insides.
He turned to return to his nearby desk with a defeated look while you hightailed it out the door.
Back home the sun was starting to set and you were fully ready for a nap. By nap you meant food, definitely food then possibly bed.
Letting a yawn stretch your jaw, you replaced your costume with some comfortable lounging clothes. Returning to the kitchen afterwards you began rummaging through the cupboards for a cup, setting it on the island and turning to the fridge to find your meal and something to fill the glass.
A shiver made it's way down your spine as it had for the last few days since you moved in, shooting up to full attention you searched for the cause. Once again empty you leaned back into the fridge and finally found what you were searching for. Closing the door you were met with narrowed vermillion eyes and sandy blonde hair?
A scream ripped from your throat at the sight, a yelp of surprise from him as both of you fell on your rears. Raising your eyes from the floor you were met with... nothing.
What the hell was that? Were you seeing shit again? No there was most definitely a guy with red eyes and messy hair.
You wailed as your eyes fell on the fallen food scattered on the floor. "I dropped my snack dammit!" Groaning into the air as if it would fix your issue you picked yourself back up and started collecting the mess to throw it away. Replacing the snack with a new one you filled the glass with water and snatched it off the counter to retreat towards your room. Placing it down on the table beside you, throwing yourself onto the bed to let out a frustrated noise into the mattress.
Fucking haunted. You knew it.
--------
Silence, that's all he could remember for the longest time. Slivers of sound began to cut through his consciousness here and there, disturbing his slumber. He sat up with a groan to rub at his eyes.
Wait a minute, he was laying in a bed? Peering around his old room to find thing that were clearly not his own.
The fuck? Did his parents move back in?
He slid from the comfortable surface to nose around the room. There was definitely a whole bunch of new things in his room that were not here before. Not a shred of his belongings anywhere. No All Might poster that had hung on the far wall since he was six, his dresser and manga rack were long gone.
Who the fuck is living in his house?
The calendar hanging on the wall above a desk caught his attention, he stomped over and followed the red X's to the current date.
"No Fucking way..." He breathed, he had been sleeping for a year and a half!
His chest tightened in alarm, he had just a little under a year left on his deal with the reaper. If he had slept any longer he would have to move on without a damn complaint!
We all damn well know that isn't happening.
Clattering sounded from down the stairs making him jump, confirmation his suspicions he was indeed not alone. He slipped out of the room and the new décor in the hall caught his gaze. Nothing looked like his mother's decorating style, his teeth gritting as he tip toed down the stairs on practiced light feet from years of practice sneaking in the dark to get snacks at midnight. He hated hearing the hag yell when she caught his ass awake.
He was halfway down the stairs when he remembered he was dead. The fuck was he sneaking for? Picture frames littered the stairs with art in them instead of photographs, not one indicating who possibly lived here. Rounding the corner to the kitchen, light flooded across the floor and showing him the intruder was obviously in that room. Paired with the audible shuffling and bangs from cabinets opening and closing.
Inside the refrigerator was open with a figure bent over inside, unable to catch a good look at the person's face he moved closer slowly trying to get a glance.
Leaning over the refrigerator door just as it slammed shut he was met with bright E/C eyes that widened with his, both of them screaming and falling to the floor.
He sat across from the girl who looked around in alarm, eyes never returning to his as she growled something in frustration about her food that now littered the floor.
Did she just see him?
She picked up the floor silently before grabbing another helping and stomping up the stairs had him left without words. He had been dead for almost a full five years and this was the very first time someone who was not a reaper had even acknowledged him even if briefly.
He hopped off the floor quickly and rushed back up the stairs she had gone back to the room he had woken in. She had saw him!
She was now cuddled into her blankets, chomping away angerly at the food while scrolling her phone.
"Oi can you see me?" He waved a hand near her face, expression unchanging to indicated she did see him. How wonderful.
He began stomping around the room like an upset toddler, first person who sees him was only for a split second. Here he was back to invisible once again. He snarled and reached for a stuffed toy that sat on the floor, his fingers slipping right through.
"Fucking making my room all girly and shit." He grumbled in frustration and planted himself on the floor, arms crossed and a visible pout on his lips. He observed the girl for some time, not about to lie this was more interesting than sitting in an empty home for the last how many years. though she simply finished her meal, drank the water in her cup and moved on to some show on her phone this was the most excitement he'd had in forever.
His vermillion eyes trailed over her features, taking in the intruder to his home as he did. Observing her body's shape, the curve of her eyes, her cheeks, the way the light reflected against the tone of her skin, and the way it bounced against her beautiful, yet exhausted eyes.
He huffed and averted his eyes quickly when she rolled over, the shorts she had been wearing had rode into dangerous territory. He didn't want to sit and stare like some pervert, especially on a girl who didn't know he was there.
While her show's noise faded into the background he took the time to ponder his situation.
He had less than a few months left of his deal.
There was a semi.... all fucking right a very attractive girl in his house that may or may not have seen him.
Ghost bakugou just pranks you around your home atp— and each time you fall for them you swear you could hear muffled laughter..
Omg no please because I LOVE this. He also messes with any workers you get to do things around your home— like he’s scared away electricians, a cable guy that got way too close and your mailman refused to deliver your parcels for a good month until they changed his route because ghost!Bakugou didn’t like the way he was ogling you when you’d answer the door in your pyjamas.
While cleaning your basement, you find an aged photograph of katsuki before he became a ghost— so after setting into a nice frame you place gifts beside it every Halloween and his birthday :)
Usually you get a floating cup of (whatever your complicated Starbucks order is) wagging Infront of your face the next day somehow. This may be very ooc but ye 💕
Omg why is this so cute though? Imagine if this is before he’s even presented himself to you? And he thinks that even in death this is the nicest thing anyones ever done for him?
Imagine him getting you ghost Starbucks oh my god😭😂 but maybe you do find the coffee machine already prepared when you wake up the next morning? But he hates how terrified you seem whenever he does little things around the house to help you or show you that he’s there—
Ok, but also consider- ghost katsuki who uses static shocks instead of explosions to get your attention
This is cute, but also I love adding to the static shock idea of him messing with the lights in your apartment too— like making them flicker? And he knows it irritates you to no end but you’re so cute when you get mad he can’t help it. So he does it on purpose to rile you up.
But you do love knowing that he’s there— even though he’s always there. It just makes you feel safe.
I love the ghost bakugou lore please let him haunt my house 🥺🥺
Just the thought of him dying and not wanting to pass on without you so he ends up at your shared home together, and he sees you going through all the stages of grief.
Making two mugs of tea as you pull his favourite mug (that was actually your mug) down from the cupboard and filling them both with teabags and a splash of milk.
Laying out a towel on the radiator in the bathroom like you usually did before he got home from work so he could wrap a warm towel around himself after he took his shower.
Rolling over to feel his side of the bed during the night, as though you were reaching for him.
And he’s pissed off because he can’t seem to get your attention, he can’t reach out to touch you, he calls out and you can’t hear him. You have absolutely no idea that he’s still here, he’s still with you. He’d never leave you.
So, like, while he's snooping around the boxes you still have after moving into the apartment.. what's this? Oh. Well well, a polaroid.
..well, he can't do it while you're awake (especially after you broke your mug after he showed himself)— he'll have a chance to try and take a selfie of him and you when you're asleep. Luckily you're a heavy sleeper, and you snore, so the flash didn't bother you.
Why is this so adorable oh my god🥺 it’s like a cute couples photograph, and he ends up cuddling you after taking it sigh.
