i love some good pulpy heavy metal sometimes haha
there’s nothing particularly challenging about it, and im usually more into metal if it breaks rules and is strange and confusing to listen to, but mastodon’s really nostalgic for me haha. i havent heard their newest album and didnt know it existed until today, and i was mostly lukewarm on their last album, but it had some cool moments. they’re clearly pretty good at making fun-sounding solos and shit and they flirt with prog-metal a lot, and i see them described as sludge metal but that’s really not true anymore... i know they were influenced by the melvins but its not really like that these days. its very fast and lots of cool riffs and stuff and dumb pulpy metal cliches and monsters and battles and space and shit lmao idk, its cool though. they had a whole album about moby dick, and one i think was about astral projecting except you get lost and just float through space? that’s interesting i suppose lol
