Growing up in Gravity Falls was hard. The small town had little in the way of indoor entertainment, business owners preferring to focus their energies on keeping the tourist and woodsman industries afloat. As such, the youth of town were frequently forced to amuse themselves with outdoorsy activities in the later parts of the evening, the mall and arcade having already closed hours before.
Tambry was exceptionally bored tonight, lazily paddling the small rental boat across the deceptively calm surface of Lake Gravity Falls. As much as the teen hated being alone, there were a few instances where she did enjoy an hour or so of solitude. Her phone was turned off, tucked away within one of the safe, durable pockets of her life vest. Sure, it might have been helpful to look up the constellation names while she was stargazing, but she didn't quite trust herself to keep a firm grasp on the device in this kind of chilly weather.
As it was, she wasn't paying attention to her surroundings, the magnificent double view of the skies distracting her from the ominous bubbling in the water. It wasn't until the boat started to rock that she noticed something amiss, turning her gaze just in time to watch a nearby island slowly raise itself out of the lake. She shrieked and rushed to paddle away from it, searching for the nearest piece of immobile land in the hopes of escaping. The beast slammed against the surface of the lake, sending a wave that capsized the tiny wooden craft and sent Tambry straight into the water. The flotation device brought her back up almost instantly, granting her a full second to watch the island head rise up again and move towards her.
This was it. This was how she was going to die. Not by a demon or robot or falling off the water tower in a stupid teenaged prank gone wrong. No, this giant, monstrous floating head with teeth taller than she would swallow her whole, all because she decided to spend some time to herself.
