Well it seems that Ghostbusters Afterlife is causing controversary just by existing and it is the same stuff that happened when the trailer for this movie first came on to the scene. Here’s the third part of what I was doing.
“It’s like Sony was so afraid of the rage of online commenters and fanboys that they basically made the first piece of safely adaptable fan fiction that came across their desk.”
NO! Sony isn’t afraid of online commenters and “fanboys”. Sony couldn’t give less of a damn about them because if there’s one lesson I know in the media world is that any kind of press is good press. Sure, there was a lot of controversary surrounding Ghostbusters 2016 but it got people talking about it, searching it up, watching videos on it and so on.
“At the very worst, it’s the continuation of a precedent within a studio system to put not even fans, but simply the angriest, most vocal fans first, no matter the cost to creative filmmaking.”
Again, Sony did what they thought is going to make them the most money and, if you look at box office mojo, Ghostbuster Afterlife is doing just that with a worldwide of $89 million at the time of this post. That’s pretty damn good with all the covid crap still going on.
“If the 2016 Ghostbusters lived to give its characters their own voice and the world its own tone, so as to carve out its own name in a popular series, Afterlife is all about taking every absurd element of the original and treating them like excerpts from a sort of Dead Sea Scroll, worshipping with utter seriousness a movie in which Dan Aykroyd gets blown by a ghost, as if this fun, low-stakes comedy is the enshrined history of the Holy Saints Spangler, Venkman, Stantz, and Zeddemore.”
Yeah? That’s what makes the money! Plus, to go with a point that the writer brings up, it’s also what the Ghostbusters fans want. That doesn’t mean that Sony is doing this explicitly BECAUSE it’s what the fans want. They just know that to get the most money they need to do what will appeal to the most amount of people, regardless of if they are a Ghostbuster fan or not. Plus, a movie like Afterlife having the idea of passing the torch to the younger generation will bring in people who are younger and may be going to see their first Ghostbusters movie and so they make new fans. Plus plus, since Afterlife has a bit of the classic Ghostbusters characters as well as the new ones which may make them want to go back and watch the originals and POSSIBLY the 2016 movie. So Afterlife has the potential to create new fans of Ghostbusters.
“Every beat that isn’t rudimentary childhood antics is dedicated not to telling its own story, but rehashing what came before as a way of appeasing a fan base that needs to be coddled with the familiar.”
Oh boy, this is just so wrong and so terrible. Sure, Afterlife does have more in common with the original movie but it’s not to say that the 2016 Ghostbusters movie doesn’t have related things. I mean, writer said near the beginning of the article that Ghostbuster 2016 has references to the original. Plus is has the familiar Ghostbuster things like the Ecto-1 and the proton packs. And again with all the calling Ghostbusters fans children just because they didn’t like the movie that our writer really like.
“I’m not here to say that Ghostbusters: Afterlife is in itself a completely imperfect movie, and the 2016 Ghostbusters is a perfect one. But between the two, only the latter seems to have understood what the real spirit of Ghostbusters is, and in turn, added to it.”
Really??? Because you sure seem to be talking a huge fucking dump on Afterlife and you REALLY seem to be putting Ghostbusters 2016 on a VERY high pedestal. But I am sorry to say that the 2016 movie doesn’t understand the “real spirit” of Ghostbusters and it didn’t add a single thing to the franchise unless it’s how to make an awful Ghostbusters movie.
“With the 2016 film, we got exactly what we needed to jump start the series: a hysterical time at the theater that could’ve been the start of something wild and increasingly fun, all while respecting what came before and expanding its own horizons for everyone to grow with.”
Calling is hysterical is going way too far. Ghostbusters 2016 is painfully unfunny when it shouldn’t have. As I said in my first post about this article, the biggest issue with Ghostbuster 2016 is that you have four comedians, good comedians, but you didn’t give them any kind of direction beyond ad libbing (yes I finally looked it up). Now this can work but it clearly was a detriment to Ghostbuster 2016.
“What creativity was bubbling there is now gone in place of shameless fanservice catered by yet another studio afraid to take a chance on something different with their precious IP, and all for supposed fans who couldn’t be less deserving.”
Oh, dear writer, how wrong you are. They did what they did because it’ll appeal to the most people and no, it’s not fanservice. And no, Sony isn’t afraid of doing something different with the Ghostbusters IP, they just want things that they can be certain will make them all the money. If you went to Sony with a script for a sequel to Ghostbuster 2016, I guarantee you that Sony would turn you down because of how much said movie flopped. They wouldn’t see it as a worthwhile investment. But sure, you believe that it’s because of the manbabies, man children and rabbid fanboys fault.
Yeah I had a few more points to talk about than I expected but you can see main overall point about this article. Writer really likes Ghostbuster 2016 and doesn’t like that Afterlife is doing well and so writer writes and manages to get published a whole article shitting on Afterlife. I really don’t have anything else to say about this article because it’s just a shit article.

In a continued attempt to save my hands from further pain, I decided that instead of pockets on the Ghostbusters uniform, I would do a tote design like I did for Scarlet Spider.
I can’t take credit for the beaker. That’s an Adobe asset I have access to because I did this in Illustrator. Can’t wait to get it on the bag.
I’m currently looking into enamel pin choices as we speak. But, before I bite the bullet....who would be interested? I’m considering a “like” as “I’m interested!” and a reblog as a “HELL YES TAKE ALL MY MONEY.”
The only downside is that the pins would lose the halftone patterns. :(

Star Wars the Last Jedi vs Ghostbusters 2016
Is it me or has star wars the last Jedi become the 2017 equivalent of the 2016 Ghostbusters in terms of discussion and divided opionions? Granted not saying that everything is similar given how many will agree that the marketing for Ghostbusters film was really really bad, while many would probably agree that the marketing behind the last Jedi was really good and convinced nearly everyone that the movie would live up to the hype. Not to mention for most part the last Jedi did much better at the box office than Ghostbusters (except china).
But after the last Jedi came out, I can't but help see many of the arguments made by both sides were very similar. For example the pros were going on about more female representation, it's different from the last films and people who didn't like are ether obsessed with nostalgia or are racist/sexist etc. While the anti side the disscusion both say it ruined the franchise/childhood, its filled with sjw and feminist pandering and the humour & character development was really bad was really bad etc.
Now I'm not saying ethier side is wrong and both have valid points, but I'm curious if given the option between the films 2 what would poeple pick as the better or more offensive film?
Personally for me I would pick star wars the last Jedi to watch again, because while as a star wars fan I completely disagree with the direction Disney and Rian Johnson have taken the era of star wars post return of the jedi and in terms of what they did with Luke, the jedi and the new republic, but if I watch it as a casual movie goer I can enjoy for most part as a well made in terms of effects and locations and directed movie with the cast especially Mark hamill.
While with Ghostbusters 2016, I'm not really Ghostbusters fan and only went to see because a friend asked my to come along and I figured I'd see if it was as bad as the trailers were making it out to be. I ended up enjoying it for most, though granted I had very low execptations to begin with I can't deny I didn't laugh at all during the first act and found it painful & embarrassing, along with the fact the movie had some serious problems with pacing.
I'm curious to see if people agree with me, disagree with what I said or can't decide etheir way. But I hope at least this disscusion will be civil as I think it could be an interesting topic.
I really hope that at some point in the ghostbusters busting career a little girl shows up at the fire station and asks for help with her science fair project because she can't figure it out and the team blows everything out of proportion for a elementary school student to be able to do and she ends up with a full blown experiment on why ghosts haunt.
