Mika pockets his phone after shooting off the texts. Who knew getting proper service in Korea would be so useful? He tiptoes down the path, careful not to step on anything too weird-looking. It’s almost nighttime, so hopefully there’s no kids wading around in the water still; it was a nice day today and he’s heard of children coming her to swim. He has no patience for kids right now, though. He’s on a mission.
With a map in one hand---old-style, not on a screen, for once---and a flashlight in his other, he rounds a sharp corner to a mess of fallen rocks. Hyojin’s note is tacked to the corner of the map. He thinks it’s a bit too vague (she could’ve given more than just a broad location to go off of) but they have all night to explore. Between the two of them, they should be able to cover a lot of ground. And maybe Myungsoh can use some of his powers or whatever to help.
He crawls over the rocks with a small ‘oof’, nearly slipping on his feet when he reaches the other side. The Hyeol mountain stands tall above him and he thinks back to what Hyojin said, about the spirits there wanting peace. Well, now he just feels bad for disturbing them. Hopefully the supposed spirits at the river will be more talkative.
The path he was on before would’ve taken him straight to the riverbank, but he doubts there’s going to be anything interesting over there. If there was, some kid would’ve gone missing by now. The more untouched areas of the river seem like better bets for what Mika is looking for.
He decides to stop around kilometer away from the path. He stuffs the map into his back pocket and rolls up his sleeves to touch the water. It’s still warm from the blazing sun and he splashes a bit on his face, shaking his head free of drops after. And then he finds a nice, not-very-comfortable-but-usable rock to sit on. His service is a lot more spotty out here, but he has some cool stories saved for offline reading.
When Myungsoh finally gets his ass over (after what feels like years), Mika crosses his arms and stands up. “Took you long enough,” he sighs. “I don’t know where else to go from here. The note... it just said to go near the Bomul river, so. Here we are!” Looking over the river and the trees on the other side, nothing looks amiss or particularly spooky. “What now? You’re the expert here.”
