inspired by @angellayercake's No Gods Or Kings prologue:
5th May 1947, [redacted] miles off the coast of Iceland.
The North Atlantic air whipped at his face, the salty sting even cutting through his customary grease paint. Against all advice he had remained on the deck as they made their final approach to their secretive destination. Even Alpha had given up some time ago, the fire ghouls infernal heat not even a match for the plummet the temperature had taken as the evening darkness had set in.
He pulled his coat tighter around his waist, the thick furs kept slipping from his leather clad grasp as the wind pulled at them but he had to wait. He needed to see it. Even here on this boat in the middle of the ocean he almost couldn't believe Ryan had done it. Had built the city they had always dreamed of. And that he was here now to see it.

I mean, I'm not 100% sure if that's how it's gonna go bc it's early stages. But honestly??? Vampire Terzo on his back under your car, smeared in oil as he fixes your oldtimer? and of course you have to do a few nightly test drives? taking the scenic route where you can see the moon wander over the horizon? a little midnight picnic in the italian countryside watching the stars? once you know what he is, he's going to use it to impress you. "I was there when Galilei discovered the jupiter moons, dolce." :DDD
This is just me joking but I have like SO many ideas for how this could go 👀 ♡

can you give some advice on writing such long, beautiful, slow-burn fics?

Now hmm this could be a long reply lol. I would say and I still struggle with this is that you have to take your time even when you don't want to. The pacing of a story is sooo hard to get right and also very personal, for some people it will be too drawn-out while for others it's still too fast. Also depends on the plot, if you have a sort of secondary arc besides the romance then it's easier to build the tension while finding solid reasons why they can't quite act on it yet.
But really a lot of it for me is intuitional, sort of finding scenes to add that help with character growth and developing trust and building momentum but also don't just feel like fillers to draw it out for the sake of it because that's gonna show. Often it can get frustrating when the tension isn't resolved and it's very tempting to just make them give in too early bc you want to get to the smut. But it can also be dissatisfying if the reasons why they don't give in make no sense or haven't been fleshed out enough.
For multi-chapter fics I think it's more about spacing out the many small but increasingly more intimate scenes throughout the overarching plot and giving the characters some growth in the process that brings them together. You don't have to be too picky here because you have a lot of space and time and then if you think about the classic story arc you have the climax somewhere close to the middle. So there is usually a lot of stuff happening before and after that you can play with, exposition and falling action etc etc.
For longer one-shots it's more about picking interesting scenes, then building the tension by repetition and a steady increase in the intensity of those scenes that then kind of lead to a more explosive moment usually at the end. So I usually want it to end on a high note basically? It can just be subtle and slow if you want it to, doesn't even have to be smut, but you can tell it leads somewhere that makes the wait worth it.
So yeah, it's really about finding balance and that's just ALWAYS the hardest thing. I have no idea if that helped at all xD
