That... wow. I do like describing things this way. Esp. because then you can explain that bad patch a while ago as “rebellious teenage years” or whatever.

thank you thank you guys! And yeah it was just totally uncalled for and kind of bizarre as well? Like I’m not sure what evidence he had to back up that kind of a statement.

<3 I think you and the other 3 or 4 members who are leaving the program are very brave and I admire you for sticking up for what you know to be best for yourselves. Someday we’ll look back on this time and sort of shake our heads and sigh with relief, yeah?

It's so strange that the door automatically locks. That is not good at all for a balcony

for mine at least that was totally my fault--the balcony’s regular locking mechanism only locks from the inside, but i also have a wooden bar against the side of the door that i usually keep propped up, which makes it fall into place when you close the door (effectively locking it)

does the lab have any common place to put procedures and recipes? a binder or a google drive? if not, try the grad student anyway

as far as i know, there isn’t a central place. i searched through the pile of protocols on our (my grad student’s and my) bench and couldn’t find it

eventually i gave up and left the cells underneath resuspension buffer (i had meant to lyse them today). that’ll probably give me an awful blot because proteolysis, but eventually there wasn’t much i could do  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯    i’ll message my grad student now though and i live close enough that i can go back to save the sample if she responds haha

oh my GOD my retreat was HELL

Oh no! I don’t have super high hopes for mine but I’ve heard tell that it’s something of a party so that’s something at least. Apparently four years ago (so two retreats ago because it’s every other year) some of the students partied so hard that the department wasn’t allowed back to the venue. Hopefully we achieve a balance between that and it being a boring science fest.

I get that. I had to write the GRFP my first month and that defs significantly added to the amount of work I had to do...

(I should write it again this year because I’m still eligible but like, I don’t want to...I should though...)
